The Strike Theater is nothing fancy, nor does it pretend to be. Thus, it is a venue perfectly suited for ultra-intimate theater experiences.
Situated in a converted old factory, bygone industrial charm abounds. The no-nonsense lobby features a couple of sofas and other seats, with a small concession stand next to the theater door. (Be forewarned, the restrooms are about a block away inside the large building.) The theater itself consists of five rows of risers with a central aisle, separating two sections of portable chairs. The stage is on the floor. High ceilings, feature exposed factory elements, which only add to the charm of the space. There are no bad sight lines anywhere, even if someone tall is sitting in front of you. You feel very connected with the performers, as they are just feet away. The lighting and sound are more than adequate to fill the space. My most recent visit there was two enjoy a ComedySportz improv event. Itâs a great space for improv, as youâll have no trouble hearing everything.
Fingers crossed that one day youâll be able to enjoy what might be the Twin Cities at least pretentious (but highly enjoyable)...
Read moreWe went there for a Comedy Sportz show, which was fun. The venue was adequate. The audio from the MC in the booth wasn't great, but good enough, and he didn't talk much anyway. We could see and hear the performers without a problem. The portable chairs were, like the rest of the venue, best described as adequate.
The theater is very small and spartan, as is the concession stand, which thankfully stocked Surly Furious in the small standing cooler. There are resturants within easy walking distance (Momo was awesome!)
Parking might be an issue at times, but there was sufficient (you thought I was going to say "adequate" again, didn't you?) street parking nearby on a Saturday evening.
Did we enjoy ourselves? Yes. Is it what I'd call a "nice place"? No. Was non-snack food available, and were the bathrooms conveniently close? Also, no.
Did they have inexpensive ticket prices and carry the magical elixir known as Surly Furious? Yes. Yes, they...
Read moreConcession area has gotten much nicer now. In that they don't sell beverages out of a cooler anymore. More options and a few snacks too! that has various beverages and snacks that you can take INTO the theater. That was a big plus for me.
Everytime I got a performance here, I have noticed the air temperature is always appropriate to the season.
Lobby waiting area CAN be a little small when there is a transition between audiences. One can stand outside, or go back to the long hallway and find a unique liquor bar while they wait...
