Read moreIn a galaxy not so far awayâEast Lake Street, MinneapolisâI stumbled into Himalayan Restaurant, drawn by the whispers of momo and the pull of paneer. And let me tell you, strong with the flavor, this place is.
Started my journey with the Veggie Half Momo, and oh, what a revelation--Inside this dumpling, the Force is. Savory secrets wrapped in doughâitâs not just a snack, itâs a galactic council meeting in your mouth. Each bite burst with spice and harmony, like a well-executed lightsaber duelâbalanced, precise, and deeply satisfying.
Then came the Palak Paneerâcreamy, comforting, and dressed in the colors of the Republic.--Creamy it is. Spinach-powered it may be. But underestimate the flavor, you must not.
Of course, whatâs a Jedi feast without Garlic Naan? If flatbread had a Jedi rank, this would be a Master. Charred just right, and sassier than Yoda on leg day. A perfect companion to scoop every last bit of that paneer goodness. (And yes, I did. Waste not, want not.)
And the steamed rice? Simple, noble, and effective.
Now, as with all great adventures, a plot twist appeared at the endâa 3% credit card surcharge. Not the end of the world, but it hits like finding out the droid you bought doesnât come with a charger. Annoying, it is.
Still, for $32 and change, this was a culinary campaign worth every credit (even with the surcharge ambush). Peaceful dining space, quick service, and food crafted with care and...
Read moreMy wife and I have been coming to this restaurant for more than ten years, since before they moved from Franklin Ave. Almost every time you enter, the first impression is the proprietor's smiling face. This carries on to his team who, over the many years, has always been kind and great at what they do.
The food is incredible. We had the wonderful experience of visiting Northern India in 2011. The first time we visited this restaurant, it brought back so many memories of the incredible food we ate. Frankly, everything we've had at Himalayan has been great, but we most frequently order the Kathmandu Curry, which is similar to vegetable khorma. You can order the mixed curry which adds chicken to the dish. I'm looking forward to trying this with paneer added the next time we visit. The chicken tikka masala is also a favorite.
Further, this is the most kid friendly restaurant I've been to. We have brought our two boys from the time they've been infants, throwing their baby carriers into the booths, through their toddler period, and now they're 8 and 5 years old. The proprietor has a bunch of toys he brings to the table to keep the kids entertained while waiting for their food. It's wonderful.
Over the years, we've introduced many friends to the food here. I believe it's one of the best restaurants in the Twin Cities and is certainly one of our very favorites. Thank...
