Replying to @the_dahminator honestly you can’t go wrong at Marty’s Deli but the BLT from there is my new fav! (I also like their bacon egg and cheese so I’m sensing a pattern lol)

the good...

  1. everybody was nice
  2. the quality of the food seems good, if maybe oddly paired
  3. the place was definitely clean, maybe even too sterile looking

the rest...

  1. this place is not a deli in any way shape or form.
  2. part of thinking that it was a deli gave me the expectation that there would be bagels for their breakfast sandwhich. Nope, no bagels, no English muffins, no biscuits, just focaccia bread. "Can I get that toasted or grilled?" No, because the inside is "nice and soft." One man's nice and soft, is another man's mushy, which is why there should be some option to toast or grill it.
  3. when I got my coffee, it was in the smallest coffee cup that I have ever seen. I immediately thought that I should have ordered a large, but then noticed that there was only the one 12oz(?) size for $3. I then asked for 1%, 2%, or whole milk for my coffee. Nope, only two choices, half&half or oatmilk. I went for the half and half and waited for my sandwhich. When I took the lid off the coffee, the cream was curdled. When I pointed it out, they first tried to convince me that it was normal. I managed a coffee house in college and have speant the 30 years since, going to coffee houses from coast to coast, at least twice a week. It is not normal for h&h to curdle like that in coffee, but to be fair, they had no issue in getting me a new coffee. That is when I remembered that they didn't have any other milk option. So I decided to take the whole thing home, where I knew that there was milk. The whole idea that I was just going to spend a relaxing time having a coffee and sandwhich out on a beautiful day, obviously wasn't going to happen.
  4. When I got in the car, I realized that the coffee cup was so small, that it basically disappeared into the cup holder. Even with the lid on, it was shorter than a gift card, so I find it hard to believe that this was a 12 oz cup. At home, I added my milk to the same coffee and there was no curdling. And it only filled my 16 oz mug about half way.
  5. The bag with my sandwhich was so greasy, that it looked as if someone had thrown a bunch of onion rings into it, straight from a deep fryer. After I took my first bite, I figured out why. There were gobs of mayo on the sandwhich. looking back at the menu, I now see that it lists garlic aoli as an "ingredient" on their sausage, egg, and cheese sandwhich. Admitedly, I never thought to look, because everywhere else on planet earth, a sausage, egg and cheese is not only the name of the sandwhich, it is the complete list of the ingredients. And who ever heard of adding a mayo-ish sauce to a sausage sandwhich?

This whole experience came to $20. the base egg & cheese sandwhich is $9 and adding sausage made it a $12 sandwhich. It was too slimey to eat between the mayo and the "nice and soft" bread, so I had to toss it. There was so little coffee, that it was gone in two minutes. So I am essentually right back where I started, needing to go out a second time for coffee and breakfast.

I don't like bashing independent places like this, but this whole experience was a fiasco from start to finish. Also, ironically, their menue says "sandwhiches to 'your' taste." I don't know how a place that seems to be inflexible in every way and without even basic options, pitches their business as if they are ready to cater to a customer's tastes. At the very least, get a container of...

The word that comes to mind is “okay”. Everything was just okay about our experience. Got an egg sandwich with sausage, and hashbrowns on the side.

Hashbrowns were okay, not much flavor, a bit more greasy than I like.

My partner and I shared the sandwich, and neither of us were able to finish our halves as after a few bites we lost our appetites. It was just okay. The focaccia was a bit flavorless, the egg was only as good as you’d expect at any restaurant, and the sausage was fine but a bit pink in the middle. Hard to undercook a 2mm thick smashed sausage patty (I actually did like the smashed aspect) but they managed to. The cheese and aioli were so overflowing we had a mess on our hands, not ideal. And the garlic of the aioli was super overpowering the rest of it.

The coffee was okay. Ever had a coffee with no discernible flavor other than, well, yep that’s coffee? That’s okay, they’re not a cafe, so it did the trick.

All in all it was okay. Won’t be back, can’t even say “glad I tried it once” because for a 45 minute wait and $30 it was a perfectly forgettable breakfast. Many better breakfast sandwiches in the twin cities without the wait.

My scale for reference: 1: Avoid 2: Wish I hadn’t bothered 3: Good once, probably won’t be back 4: Great, will return 5: Amazing, can’t...

I can only recommend this place for neighborhood residents coming in for take out and there are probably better options. I came all the way from downtown St. Paul on multiple buses on our transit system. The food is okay. Basically it is an overpriced Bruegger's Bagels breakfast sandwich. The hashbrowns are McDonald's style, very greasy and also overpriced. There are simply not enough places to sit for this to be an enjoyable place for lunch or breakfast at busy times. After coming all the way over from St. Paul, my choices on a subzero day were to wait for a seat to open up while my food grew cold (most of the few tables are for groups) or to eat outside and get frostbite on my hands or take it with me while waiting for the next bus back to St. Paul (while my food also got cold). The staff were rude and made it clear that food could not be consumed at the waiting area counter despite no signage to this effect. I would also note that the ice on the side walk in front had not been treated so I nearly slipped on my way back to the bus stop which would not have been a good thing for a 56 year old. A disappointing experience and I definitely will...
