I flew into MSP and immediately my girlfriend told me we were eating at this joint, no options allowed! And she was right! It was pretty dead the night we went, so we got a table quickly, and were served quickly as well. We started off with the absolutely massive egg rolls that were a hit. When they arrived, I was shocked at how big and plump they were! After this, we ordered, I got dish with beef, peanuts, sauce, peppers and onions, and my partner got fried shrimp with a cream sauce and walnuts. Both were very tasty and very large portions, but I was shocked to learn that rice needed to be ordered separately? That did not make sense to me, but to each their own, and the food was very tasty, so that makes little difference to me. It was a pricey meal, but it was a good one for sure.

I was disappointed and disgusted at my experience with this establishment. Every time I come in town I think of here for quality shrimp fried rice and egg roll, this time was THE worst quality I’ve ever experienced. Egg rolls were tripled deep fried as it tasted of all things oiled and the pork had a spoiled smell and taste. The rice was a tick away from mush and was not fresh at all, lacked taste period. Even leftover meals would have tasted better with more flavor and on top of that it was $30 down the drain. Should have stayed on the road to Cane’s. I’ll never return, especially after calling to express my disappointment and was told I’d receive a call back from the manager because she was “busy” and didn’t receive one.

At long last, after a trying first couple years of a pandemic, we were finally invited by the host, to engage in a calm and serene atmosphere, surrounded by koi and architectural design fitting to modernity and simplicity, elegant style and beauty. The beef chow fun is silky, savory, a mouthfeel of scallions, ginger, and garlic, enough to languish in its feast and then land in abundant flavor. The curry, also a mouthful of savory delight, and voted, in our opinion, number one in Minneapolis-St Paul. Not all chocolate wontons are equal. This one is a delicate malty cocoa and good to the last savory moment on your tongue. Lastly, the host treated us to the house papaya, fresh lobes bathing in its aromatic juices.

Stay Away! The restaurant that you might have known is no longer there. Yes, it is physically still the same but the food and service is gone. My wife and I went for dinner to Rainbow that I have praised since 1989. Sesame Noodles were drenched in a monotone peanut butter sauce (I have had this dish over a dozen times, this was no longer right). My wife thought it was like cleaning a jar of peanut butter with over cooked noodles. They weren't terrible, just not as good as they used to be. Won Ton soup, incorrectly seasoned, all I could taste is salt (so I added hot sauce). At this point of the meal I told my wife not to worry the entrees will make up for it. She ordered Duck with vegetables. The duck tasted like it had been cooked and held for three-four days. she tried it and I tried it and placed the partially chewed food in my napkin. Oops, we will send it back. Then I tried my entree; Seafood and Gai Lai Mein. My noodles were burned (straight burned, not brown or toasty...burned), I tried to cut into the shrimp and failed (tire rubber consistency), the sauce on one of my favorite menu items flavorless. I consumed one bite and waited 5 minutes to get the servers attention (who had tables on the sidewalk, front, middle and back of restaurant. Rotating tables doesn't work all the time guys. We sent our entrees back, I received a menu again. The server then returned to tell me we were going to pay for half of the duck entree. I stayed perfectly calm and was told the owner was going to come talk to us. Great, if Tammy sees this and talks to me she will fix everything right? Nope, Tammy Wong didn't come out just the server who brought the tab and informed us we would have to pay 1/2 for both uneaten and inedible entrees. This is the first time I have not tipped in 22 years of being in the service industry.

Rainbow Chinese restaurant used to be a shining jewel in this state, now it is on par with the poorest of the buffets and take out places that make you sad.

This thing makes me very...

I kind of can’t believe it’s getting one star after the reviews I read, but actually everything we ordered was bad.

The peanut noodles were sort of just noodles covered in peanut butter with little else, the calamari tasted fishy and came with no sauce, the Kung Pao Chicken had almost no chicken and the sauce had little flavor and the vegetables were bland. The Szechwan Wontons which were supposed to be good also had almost no sauce on them and were ok, but still mediocre.

It was $60 for actually some of the worst Chinese food that either of us had ever had.

On a Friday night I would have thought it would be the best cooks working, but instead this truly ended up being the most regrettable $60 spent in a while.

Edit: so I decided that it was worth the time to call and give some feedback and when I describe all of these things the person on the phone said “Now is not a good time, we’re busy” and then sort of did a “Um hm, I’ll give the manager your information.” I worked in the service industry and I know how much it sucks when you’re swamped and can’t catch your breath, but I did think maybe a “I’m sorry - don’t worry, we’ll make it right” or something like that would have been awesome.

I would definitely...

Ordered this evening two entrees. Sesame chicken with white rice and Singapore noodles. We also got an order of cream cheese wontons. We processed our order through bite squad. When our order was delivered, the sesame chicken was flavorless and didn’t include the white rice that came with it. There was hardly any meat in the Singapore noodles and the wontons did not come with the usual sweet and sour sauce. We called to notify the restaurant of the order being sub par and that it didn’t include all the items. The person on the phone gave the call to the chef where we were met with defensiveness of the quality of the order. All that was said was that not all food tastes the same as other Chinese restaurants and they weren’t sure why the order didn’t include the white rice. They didn’t offer an apology and directed us to call bite squad to address our complaint. Normally, I wouldn’t write a review, but the fact that this restaurant was apathetic about our order/experience was upsetting. We called them because bite squad delivery service did a great job, it was the restaurant and their poor service/food that was bad. Definitely will choose other restaurants before...
