Got a Chicken Suqaar 1/2 rice 1/2 spaghetti. Food was good but it was mostly wow the mango juice was too sweet mostly sugar. It is not my first time trying out Somali food I hade it to go few times so this time I decided to eat there what a horrible experience, I honestly was so upset with the costumer service 3 man on the phone or talking to each other it took them 7 minutes to come and greeted us ok fine then looking around o man how is this restaurant still open ? Very unsanitary used floor is dirty the floor looks like haven’t being swept or mop for a week you can clearly see everything on the floor stepping on used napkins o wait the table was dirty I can not even rest my arm on thinking this guy will come back with some cleaning supplies and disinfecting the table but No instead he brought our food and put on the filthy table. Please tell me you won’t be upset if that was you ?? So I had 2 bites and I hade to take it to go. Here is the fun part # I don’t know what they have so I asked for Manu hmmm the menu was nasty I honestly feel seek to my stomach even to touch it my frined help reading what they have for me that is how bad it was then went to pay so on the menu the price for both of us food order says $14.90 by the time I got to pay for it is 21.99 and 18.99 so $7 extra for each food I have to pay for Same on them. When I asked the answer was sorry that was old menu we have. Wait what is this a joke? You guys should be ashamed of yourself I am sorry but for big restaurants like this you have no menu ? I don’t know how health department and food safety haven’t involved on this in the...
Read moreThis place is easy to find, well-labeled from the street with a parking lot off to the side. Women sit in the back and men in the front, although men can sit with their families in the back if they so choose.
There isn't much description on the menu and it appears there is only one English menu, but we had done some research beforehand so had a sense of what to order. We got a single fish sambusa, followed by the fried tilapia over rice and the meat suqaar (sp?) over rice. They were accompanied by bananas, an overly-sweet mango drink, and a side salad dressed with ranch.
Overall, the food was really tasty. The rice was savory and well-seasoned, the fish and the meat were both very aromatic and tender, and the salad was fresh. The bananas were at perfect ripeness as well. The ambiance is a little noisy with all the families in the back, but we found service pretty quick and friendly. Our meal cost $25 before tip and we were in and out within an hour, with lots of leftovers to spare. I would recommend this place! We felt welcome even though it's obvious it's frequented by...
Read moreYou'll probably be the only non-Somali in the restaurant if you're not Somali. Our Lyft driver one afternoon recommended it.
My only complaint is that the menu doesn't come with much explanation but it's probably unnecessary for a market primarily of Somalis. Our waiter did not have great English but did his best job answering our questions and our food was delivered fast (we came before any peak hours though). The staff on hand when we were there were perfectly fine.
Food is great and the portions are HUGE. I don't eat meat and while vegetarian options on the menu are lacking, our waiter was able to add some AMAZING stewed greens to my otherwise plain (but delicious) rice. I'm sad it's off menu. And don't forget the banana! It's meant to be sliced and eaten with your meal. We got a pitcher of mango juice as well. It's not the most amateur-friendly Somali food experience but for my first Somali meal I...
