Low key eatery, and nice atmosphere to chill with small group of friends. Slower than usual food service, plan an hour to wait and at least, even while seated. Clean bathrooms. Has a small TV on upper wall playing some nice low volume African music. Sweet cinnamon tea is too sweet and hurts my stomach even after a small sip, don’t recommend it, it’s premade and not made fresh- too much sugar in it. Food is average, nothing competitive or super appealing. Kenyan food is fusion, so it’s not really as authentic as we’d hope. Dish menu claims to have rice, but rice was not served. Don’t plan on coming back unless I need a low key place to chill and not be bothered. But the seating is limited, and the architecture of the layout wasn’t very well thought out. Chairs are comfortable and a lot of open space. Not cramped at all. But, the task urgency of this place is very lacking. I would recommend this restaurant get an expert business consultant to remain profitable- I see tough times for this business ahead. Food and task management is not competitive at all. There are much better places for African food with much lower prices just a few blocks away. I like the effort, but just not a place that has the ability to truly standout. Seasoned fries also, are not tasty at all- the taste combination is not appetizing or appealing. Food came out lukewarm, like it was sitting out for a while. We didn’t bother taking any left overs, just not enough uniqueness or style. Don’t recommend eating here unless your taste pallet cannot distinguish...
Read moreI was hoping that the food would be decent, but it was absolutely delicious!
Curry chicken with cabbage and chapati was out of this world. Great blends of spices with just the right amount of heat; not too mild, not overwhelming.
The coconut curry beans (vegan) with chapati were incredible. This was one of those deceptively simple items that benefited from a perfect blend of spices and herbs. I expected to like it, but I loved it!
The person behind the counter, Fanaka, was able to answer all of our questions and provide great recommendations. If he hadn't suggested the passion fruit juice and the chilled African tea, we would have missed out on two amazing beverages that were perfect complements to the meal.
At the end of our meal, Chef Jojo came over and talked to us. He was so warm and friendly. It was a truly incredible experience on a Saturday evening. Thank you Fanaka, Jojo, and everyone else...
Read moreThis was our first time here and it was a nice experience, but this is not an ideal spot for large groups. We were one such group, and a smaller group of six people came in and ordered before we did. We waited over an hour for our food. We understood when we learned that there were only two people working the entire restaurant with one person manning the grill, and the food was hot and fresh and well worth the wait. The only real disappointment were the plantains, which were dry and rubbery and not what I was expecting. I'm guessing they were cooked before they were ripe, but everything else was fantastic. The dishes were served in plastic tupperware containers, so we didn't have to ask for to-go boxes. Our server was very patient and polite too! I would definitely come back here by myself to order takeout, or dine-in with...
