It’s the first Ethiopian restaurant in Minneapolis, MN since 1990. It’s located in a dangerous area and you got to watch your back. The “ghetto in the sky” is dominating the Minneapolis skyway on this side of town. The City of Minneapolis and mayor are true idiots for not preserving a great part of the city, and not turning it into a vibrant and cultural center. The city does not even allow free parking, and while you pay for parking you get get beat up or gunned down. Thank you Mayor! The Red Sea is great on the other side if you don’t get murdered on the way there. It’s like escaping war to get there, a true story. The restaurant has this cool African vibe. The incense they burn it’s cleaning, it bring your senses right into Africa, Ethiopia is a vibrant country with vibrant people. There is bar next door too playing Ethiopian modern tunes. There is a bar on the side of the restaurant too. The bar is busy too with African men who are actually nice and talkative. Some enjoy their cocktails others having Ethiopian coffee. The food is Very colorful and tasty. The dishes too are what you should expect from Ethiopian food 🤩 Good people and the waitresses are calm and kind. I would say get the kinds of Ethiopian food that has the sauce in there. #19 is the bees chunks with the red sauce that makes it great for dipping. Their chicken dishes or lamb looks good too. You can ask for the Ethiopian ground spice to set your mouth on fire 🔥 I did and I don’t even regret it. Cheers to the Ethiopian food and the vibrant culture ;)

As much as I thought they had economical options, their food was overall sloppily made and didn't contain enough flavor. I believe they toned down the seasoning a bit to potentially serve people that couldn't handle spice, which resulted in their food overall on the plain side relatively. There are still some highlights worth pointing out, though, which I will try to do. I thought the ater kik and the shiro were overall well made, and one bite with a chunk of injera offered a traditionally tasty experience. Miser was okay, and could use more seasoning in my opinion. The doro wot also didn't have enough spice, and the chicken didn't necessarily have an "off the bone" quality like I would have loved. The lantil alicha was pretty good because lentils, which wouldn't normally be considered tasty, were pretty tasty. Both the yabesha gomen (kale) and tikel gomen (cabbage) were unfortunately bland as well in comparison. Spending just around $13 for a veggie firfir, which was a veggie sampler for one person, was a good deal, though. I think those who are around the Cedar area can still have a good time here.

The food was great, but the service was awful. The quality of the food is the only reason I gave more than 1 star. We had a large party (7 people) that I made a reservation for. We ended up spending about 2.5 hours at the restaurant because they kept forgetting what everyone ordered, even though the waitress had written down our orders. They only got one of our orders right the first time, the rest they either "didn't have" the dish anymore, or brought the wrong dish to our table that no one had ordered, or didn't remember who had ordered the dish they were bringing. 3 out of 7 of us didn't get our entrees until over an hour after we had ordered. One of them, the staff told him they didn't have what he ordered anymore, so he had to order something else an hour after his initial order. One person's entree never came, and he ended up having to get it in a box (and still didn't know what entree he had ordered until the end). The entire time we were there, the staff pretty much ignored us and didn't fill our water glasses or bring us napkins until we specifically asked. Tables around us were getting their orders way earlier than we did, even though we ordered first. One of us had been here before and had a good experience, so it may be that The Red Sea just cannot handle large parties, but that was no excuse for the service we experienced. A party of 7 is not uncommon for a typical restaurant, and they should have been prepared for us, considering that they knew we were coming with our reservation. They did give us a minimal discount for the terrible service, but the gesture was sort of lukewarm considering how much...

I've been here for dine in and gotten delivery, and I really enjoy the food, but I had a few issues with getting delivery from them. First off, we ordered sambusas, which didn't come, and received no substitution (there are two types of sambusas on the menu and we would have been happy with either one, or a different appetizer). I can understand that likely they were out that night, and maybe they didn't have a way of contacting us to offer some type of replacement. Secondly, the food was packaged on the injera, which works fine in the restaurant, but it made the injera very soggy and unpleasant. Maybe some people like it this way, but both my partner and I wished it had been packaged differently. Lastly, our veggie sample platter was all piled on top of one piece of injera folded on to itself, making it impossible to separate the dishes or tell what was what. The shiro is very good, and I love the injera. The food also arrived stone cold, which is likely the fault of door dash and not Red Sea. It heated up nicely in the oven, so that was fine. The Red Sea online menu is not very descriptive, which made it hard for us to select dishes. If you do want to try delivery, door dash was much cheaper than grub hub and had a faster projected delivery time, although be aware that they often don't contact you to let you know your food has arrived. The menu doesn't say it, but the dishes we ordered came with two pieces of injera, which was plenty, although one piece was mostly turned to mush due to the way it was packaged. Overall I do really like this restaurant, but I'm hesitant to order...
