After reviewing some of what others have said, I have determined that this establishment is doing the right thing by implementing a 20% surcharge for livable wages instead of raising their food prices because it offers transparency about what that 20% is added to, which is a cause that I fully support, and makes me want to willingly contribute more, instead of increasing my expectations on the food quality due to increased prices. With that said, I have to make it clear that they indeed have amazing food! I have been here a total of 3 times, and each time it did not disappoint. First of all, even with the surcharge, most of the items are still under $20 and therefore affordable, on top of them providing a good amount of food on each plate. Second, quality-wise, I would highly suggest the damn good egg sandwich, the huevos rancheros benedict, the cinnamon rolls, the biscuits & gravy, and the pierogis, eggs & sausage. All of them have the perfect combination of food that allows you to say that you have gotten a little bit of everything! If I have one piece of constructive advice, it would be to offer a bit more variety in the salads that are offered with some of the plates. This is not a piece of advice I have for this establishment per se, as a lot of other restaurants do the same. I think adding some beets or cherry tomatoes along with the single kind of leafy greens would elevate the side house salad even more. While I wouldn't put this place as a breakfast / brunch spot better than others, I will say that this place is definitely one of the great breakfast spots in the city. The food is served in a speedy manner, and the atmosphere is very modest in a self-serve type of manner, although they also allow you to order at the counter. It is the perfect spot to have a good time with a friend catching up while indulging in some good breakfast, all the while not having to worry about looking...
Read moreFirst, it’s expensive for a breakfast. The forced 20% tip won’t sit well with some. Once you’re past the price and ready to eat, on with the review.
The Buttered Tin is in a great location at the foot of the Lowry bridge. Easy to get to, easy to access. It’s counter service, so you walk in and the menu is up behind the cash registers. It’s a LOT to read, so be ready.
Everything we tried was delicious. I’d bet everything on the menu is delicious.
From the other reviews, I knew to get the cinnamon roll. It was phenomenal. I’ll be going back just for the roll. It’s a meal by itself. But I wanted to do a review, so I also got a meal.
My daughter loved her Grain Belt Breakfast. With Polish sausage from Kramarczuk’s, how can you go wrong?
I had the Buttered Tin pancakes. You get 3 massive pancakes with some fruit. They are thick and fluffy. You need a LOT of syrup, so ask for another small syrup when you get it. The pancakes are okay by themselves with the butter, but once the syrup was added, fantastic. I couldn’t finish all 3, but that was because I had the cinnamon roll.
I may not be back as often as I’d like to, because it is pricey for me, but I’d like to try everything on the menu eventually.
I’ll certainly be back for the cinnamon roll.
Thanks for...
Read morePlace is very laid back, simple, bright, and clean. We got the smothered burrito, the huevos rancheros, french toast with lemon and honey mascarpone, and the standard eggs, hash brown, turkey sausage, and toast. We also tried the lavender lemonade and ginger lemonade. The smothered burrito was delicious but on the spicier side so those less tolerant of heat might need to skip this or get extra sour cream on the side. The huevos rancheros are on top of corn cakes that are lightly sweetened and topped with corn tortilla strips for the crisp. Pickled onions were also part of this dish and added a great sweet tang to the dish. Just great! The French toast uses long baguette bread that are thick and perfect for this. The lightly sweetened mascarpone had a pleasant lemon flavor in the background topped with blueberries and grapes. I think this is the only thing I was disappointed about that it wasn't "berries" as advertised. Where were the strawberries?
The traditional breakfast was also solid. The bread is textured not just store bought flimsy bread. The turkey sausage was on point and flavored well.
The lemonade...well the lavender was too strong and couldn't drink it. The ginger lemonade was...
