First, the good. The music was good. They had a DJ for the most part and also 2 live singers playing salsa and merengue, maybe 5 bachata and 2 reggaeton songs. There was a good amount of dancing.
Also, the food was mostly good. We had a large group of about 30 people for a birthday party.
Now, the bad. Most restaurants usually start you off with a glass of water or a pitcher of water for a group. Only the drink menu was on the table and it didn't have any prices. I didn't get a food menu until I was there for prob 30 mins or more.
First, I just ordered 2 chicken empanadas and a Guava Cosmopolitan. The Cosmo never came. The empanadas tasted different but I'm not sure why. I think it said something like "yuca" so I don't know if they added that with the chicken.
An hour passed before I realized we didn't have to wait for the entire group to order. We only had 2 waiters helping us and a maitre d' or owner came around sometimes to check in. I ordered a medium platter for me and my sister but it was enough for probably 4 people to share... Griot, chicken, sausage, cheese and fried plantains (the thin kind.... Bannann peze). I ordered a Sprite to drink instead of a Cosmo.
By this time, the party host had ordered more platters for our group so we ended up with a ton of shareable food. They brought me a can of soda and a cup of ice. So I'm guessing they don't have free refills on soda. I wanted to ask for water but every time the waitress left it was 30 mins before one of them came back so I just shared my sister's drink which was a delicious passion fruit juice. Also, the waiter and waitress never remembered who ordered what so they kept going to all the tables once they brought the food out. I will say some of the food looked good. I saw other people had ordered white rice, black beans and grilled chicken or a shrimp cocktail with fries.
When I finally decided to box up the leftovers and cash out, the waitress came with one of those card readers and took my card right at the table. They automatically added 18% tip which is fine because most restaurants automatically add a tip for large parties. Then the woman stood there watching me... And I added another tip because I was super confused at first. I kept pressing a bunch of buttons and I wanted a printed receipt but I never got one. My total came out to $75 for me and my sis. Empanadas were only $3.50 each; Medium platter was about $24 and the rest was drinks but I'm still not sure how much each drink cost.
Later, as people started leaving, they started telling us to move from one table to another?? I don't know if they were trying to clear it off for more customers or if they were getting ready to close the restaurant side but this seemed rude to me after I just gave them basically a 23% tip. Also, the music was good but waaaaaayyyyyyy too loud. I had to practically shout at the people next to me. Also, they had a bunch of TVs playing 2 different baseball games. I know it's a sports bar but with all that live music, they should just turned it off because it was just a distraction.
All in all, the food was pretty good. The music was great. But the music was waaayyyy too loud and they need a lot more waiters. I think the loud music is probably what caused a lot of confusion. There was actually 2 other birthdays going on but they were smaller tables of 5 or 6 people. There was probably about 100 but I think maybe 5 waiters and waitresses. It's a fun bar/restaurant and great for small groups but I would never do a large...
Read moreReservation for a large amount of people was made to celebrate my grandmother’s 80th birthday. Last night, I arrived with my 2 kids and sat at a tall small table kind of far from the big main table. We weren’t acknowledged until 30 mins later. I ordered two water for all of us and a coke. Food Menu was given along with bottled waters and the coke. I never asked for bottled but I let it go. Asked for the drink menu. 30 mins later ordered the food. More guest arrived and sat to the table next to me. They didn’t get acknowledged either. One went to the bar to get her own drink. 20 mins later food arrived. No utensils, no drink menu, no condiments. 17 mins later, I told the waitress what we need as well for the drink menu. She got defensive yelling at me saying it’s so busy. My son ordered the steak sandwich and it didn’t have the cheese and sour cream as described on the menu. The waitress said its additional price. I said and point it out that it’s on the menu. Other party guests went ahead to get the utensils, napkins (I had the baby in my lap). 19 mins later I received the drink menu along with utensils, ketchup and the sandwich. I ordered my drink. I asked for the manager. Waitress became more argumentative, put her hand on my lap and said my drink is free. I told her not to touch me. 35 mins later the manager came. I told him the waitress needs to work on customer service. I get it that it’s busy. But don’t be defensive yelling at the customer and then the customer will react the same way. Manager also needs to be educated how to be an effective manager. He tried to bribe me by giving me another free drink. Apparently the girls next to me are our guest too and it’s a different waitress that supposed to take care of them. The other waitress told the manager that those girls didn’t want anything which is a lie. At this time, my food got cold and I still have not received my drink. 33 mins later, I received the drink along with a shot a tequila that I refused. I already ate my cold food, I took a sip of my drink and it wasn’t good. The girls next to me went for dancing and came back to an empty table except their purses, thirsty for some water. My mom was being so nice to this poor service, getting food from other table and bring it to the girls the picada. We sang Happy Birthday to my gma. I went to the bathroom to the other side to change my babygirl while my son went to the bathroom by the table. I came back and my table was empty except a different lady sitting on that table. I was confused. My drinks were moved to the girls table next to me. The whole experience was horrible. I told the manager what happened and said I haven’t been asked to pay and will be leaving. It was my first time being there and I won’t be coming back. The way things were handled was not it. I work in customer service fast paced crowded environment. I never called a manager over in my life until last night. If you’re genuinely sorry, you apologize and see how you can make the experience better. Not get defensive or bribing. I went somewhere else with better drinks, music and most importantly...
Read moreAlthough the restaurant is nice, the food is delicious and our waitress is super professional… unfortunately the security team needs to do a better job on handling a tough situation and the owner who was also there needs to pay more attention to her customers because at the end of the day we are the ones that bring her money. Yesterday we were celebrating and enjoying the music. We sat in this round table where my friend was position in a way that it was kind of blocking the pathway for people to walk. The security ask her to move or to sit in another chair because she was blocking. My friend was annoyed and said “why!? I payed for a table that the restaurant positioned the table in a way and it was picked for me”. About 20 mins later she moved and we continued enjoying the music. Then we noticed that there was people in front of us dancing and taking pictures basically blocking our view. Yeah it was annoying I waited patiently for them to move a few guards passed by they didn’t do anything. I did speak to two guards and they both said “they are dancing”. Two of my friends got up and started to dance. They were in an area dancing where there was people taking pictures and videos. There was 2 ladies by the bar that were taking a video and got frustrated with my two friends because they were dancing and blocking their view. My friend told them “simple go around us and continue taking your video.” I guess the ladies told him no we were here before you….literally like little preschoolers. At that moment a guard came over and told my friend to go. My friends said why we didn’t do anything wrong. The guard said “we don’t want any trouble” my friends told the guard we didn’t cause any trouble it was those girls. My guard said “just leave go home” that’s where everything went south. There was guards surrounding my friends trying to kick them out of the restaurant and then out of no where their was a lady dress in white confronting my friend for literally no reason at all she literally had no reason to be in that mess. I saw her trying to start a fight with my friends and that where I got up and push her basically singling her to back off. That’s where all the guards came in trying to block a possible chance of a fight. I see that my friend was being surrounded by guards and a guard was trying to pull her arm to make her leave. At this point I see that it was time to go home and I was singling to all my friends let’s go home I want to go home. I grabbed her purse and we left. Out side I noticed several things. The security guard didn’t handled the situation well the owner of the restaurant which she was also there didn’t come out didn’t care us and the ones that did caused the trouble were outside. We spoke with the supervisor of security and in the process of all this my friend left the restaurant with a bruise on her arm that the...
