Good food, not so good service.
I’ve been here 3 times in the past two months.
1st experience: 5 star experience, great service and the food was delicious, I definitely wanted to come back.
2nd experience: Given the great first impression, I decided to give it another try. This time, we arrived at the restaurant 1 hour before closing. The hostess sat us down immediately. 5 min later, the waitress comes with the barcode to scan the menu and said that we had to order immediately because the restaurant was closing. This was a full 1 hour before closing, but I understand that things may change due to low demand... I remember thinking that there were nicer ways of telling us that the restaurant was closing; like telling us upon arriving that we would have to rush our order (and provide us with the menu then), or just not letting us in. Either way was fine, but standing in front and demanding an immediate order was a bit rude. About 20 minutes later, a party of 5 came, and ordered food...
3rd experience: the first one was so good that I didn’t even give my second experience another thought when deciding to come back. This time, the restaurant was at about 75% capacity; fairly busy. I ordered 1 plate, with the expectation that it would take longer than usual. 40 minutes later, the waitress comes to tell us that “they are preparing the plate”. I asked for her definition of that phrase (kindly, because I was truly confused), and she said that “they were putting the meat on the plate”. After 10 minutes, I called her and inquired about the order, to which she replied that they were preparing it. I questioned her previous statement from 10 minutes ago, again, and she said that, yes indeed, 10 minutes ago, they “started cutting the meat in the plate”. I replied saying that I did not mind if the order was misplaced, but that I wanted to know the real status of the order because then I could make a decision as to wether stay or leave. She said she would check on the order again, and did not come back for 3 minutes (yes, this time I timed it). As I stood up from the table, 2 other employees approached and said that they would check on the order. At this moment, I was impatient and I left after waiting 30 more seconds.
I don’t mind an order being late, I don’t mind an error/mistake. It really is nothing, I understand things happen. But they lied to me, twice. I ordered a 10oz steak; I have a hard time believing that it takes ~15 min to cut it. I left the restaurant because of a lack of honesty.
This review is quite long, and I don’t expect many people to read the entire story. I wrote this so that the owners can see it, and take proper action, if they deem it necessary. I wish Tribeca nothing but the best as it is a small business and their food was great the two times I actually ate there. Unfortunately, for now, they have...
Read moreHubby and I had been wanting to try this restaurant for a while. I can truly say that I will never go back. First, the service was horrible. The hostess sat us down and the waitress didn't come to check on us until 20 minutes later. We ordered a bucket of beer, a chicharron appetizer, and a glass of water with lemon. We got the beer and placed our dinner order. Hubby got the Mar y Tierra for $35, mom got the pargo a la criolla for $25, and I got the chimi sliders for $16. The chicharron appetizer came out and was placed on our table. We had NO silverware and no plates. Meanwhile the waitress was MIA. I had to get up from my table to go look for her to ask for silverware and napkins. After a while we got our food order. I had to ask for the water again since she had forgotten about it. The Mar y Tierra was very good. It was the best meal of the night. My mom's fish was a joke. She didn't even get a whole fillet. It was broken into pieces. The flavor was also very fishy. I wanted to send it back but she refused as she was afraid of retaliation from the kitchen. The mofongo was also very dry and was not served with a broth to dip it into. Ughhh After almost 20 minutes my sliders finally came out (just as I was about to cancel them). The sliders were horrible. The meat was overcooked and did not taste good. The toston portion was drenched in oil, as is the oil they were cooked in was not hot enough. Overall this restaurant experience was negative for me, aside from the Mar & Tierra, which I say again was very good. The service was slow and inattentive. Plus, the restaurant itself was so noisy. I do not recommend this...
Read moreMy wife read great reviews on NextDoor app and set my expectations very high. She even made reservations for Saturday night. When we arrived, the place looked like an improvised warehouse made restaurant with basic furniture and decoration. Then, the waiter insisted on giving us a specific table when there were plenty of empty tables (actually, the place was around 30% occupied). We had to ask the manager to get another table. Then, we found out that it wasn't a romantic or quiet diner: the Latin music was blasting a laser lights were dancing around the place in such a manner that reading the menu or listening to my wife required a Buddhist concentration. As a vegetarian, I am always lucky to find options everywhere with the help of some combined creativity between waiters and me. Not here! Only "South western salad". No changes, no options. After explaining the waitress that I was vegetarian, she asked if I wanted to add chicken or shrimp to the salad but I declined. I was grateful to the Universe that it wasn't as worse at it could be. The music louder and some singers appeared to replace the music. I rushed the unusual Southwest wen salad version that they brought and asked for our bill to find that I was charged an extra $3.00 for avocado when the salad says it brings avocado!! In a nutshell: My...
