American Pancake House & Restaurant — Restaurant in Mishawaka

Today I had intentions on ordering an omelette. I order carry-out every now and again from this place but today was a horrible experience. I go in line like I normally do and I'm asked if I have to be seated. I say no, I need to place a carryout order. I proceed in line and get to the counter and I am told this is the "cash order line only" and being asked to step aside and someone else will take my order. Well the person that was supposed to take my order asked if I had a carryout order placed and I told her no, so she proceeds to answer the phone and leave me standing there. While I am still standing at the counter, this Hispanic woman proceeds to cash out other people and actually reaches around me to help the next person and had the audacity to place the person's receipt in front of me to sign so that I would move out of the way even though I'm still waiting to place my order. I leave the restaurant and I actually contemplated on leaving this review first. I calmed myself and walked back in and asked to speak to a manager. The Hispanic woman is standing there waiting now and says "Did you still want to order?" I said no, I would like to speak with a manager. She tells me that she is the manager. That actually made it worse. So I tell her no I will no longer be eating here because I'm not used to getting this type of service and what she did was rude and quite unprofessional. She could've just taken my order the first time I was there. Regardless of how busy it has always been, I have never been treated like that. Now I see why people are not going here like...

My family and I decided to try out this restaurant today and wasn’t too happy about it and on the way home we stated we would never go back. My husbands biscuits and gravy were cold. My daughters pumpkin pancakes that were $11, they were super small, thin and only came with 2, I wish I would of snapped a photo bcuz it was definitely not worth that price, she had ordered a side of bacon and the bacon was not any good, it reminded me of fake bacon. My hamburger was wayyyy over done, my lettuce that was supposed to go on my burger was soggy/limp and the middle of the leaf was brown. Our dr people was gross, it literally had no carbonation and the taste was off. We didn’t complain to the server bcuz she was very sweet and kind to us. I did say something when we checked out to the lady about my daughters pancakes and all she could offer was like $2 off our meal, still was definitely not worth $9 for 2 tiny tiny pancakes. The only thing that was really good, was the loaded potato soup and their bread they served with it! I was super disappointed about the parking, there was not much space, but understandable bcuz of the placement of the establishment. I did call 5 mins in advance to see if they had a wait and it ended up being about a 10min wait when we got there, so that wasn’t all that bad. Women’s bathroom trash was over flowing. And we were sat by the door, which I don’t think anyone would like bcuz people were bumping into our seat and I have back issues. Just sharing our experience...

This was my first time dining here since the 1990s. I’m pretty sure it was operating under a different name and possibly different owners back then.

The place looks pretty run down. The cedar shake roof shingles looks like it’s in bad need of replacement.

The inside isn’t necessarily dirty, but it isn’t especially ascetically pleasing, either.

The staff and our server was quite friendly and prompt.

The food was “meh”. I love corned beef hash but it’s high in sodium and I have to limit myself because of my hypertension. As a result, I only have corned beef hash on Sundays.

The corned beef hash I ate here this morning was terrible. I can’t quite describe it, but it had a horrible taste and after taste. I only finished half of it. I don’t know if I had a bad batch served to me or if it’s just the brand they use.

The outside parking lot needs attention. There are several potholes that need tended to.

This is just one person’s experience and opinion. They place looks like a popular restaurant so I’m sure my review is the exception,...
