Coney Express — Restaurant in Mishawaka

You can't find very many Coney Island Restaurants outside of Michigan and the few that you do either aren't actually Coney Island Restaurants or only serve Coney dogs or are Coney Island Restaurants but aren't as good.

Coney Express on the other hand is one of those that hits it right out of the ball park. The original owners of Coney Express are originally from Detroit, MI. The quintessential home of Coney Island Restaurants. The first time I went their I immediately felt like I was back home in Detroit. From the welcoming smile and greeting of the staff to the Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks memorabilia all over the restaurant to the amazing food. It all comes together to give me a little slice of home. My go to favorite has always been a loose burger with onions and mustard but my second and third time there I tried the BBQ dog which is a hot dog with BBQ sauce and diced pickles on it. And it is delicious. I will definitely be going back and getting my two favorite dishes or maybe even trying something new. And for however long I am living here in South Bend, IN I will be making as many trips as possible to Coney Express. Top notch service, top notch, food and top notch environment. Coney Express is a family owned Mishawaka business that has been in Michiana since 1972. Tim & Rachael are the owners and greet you with a smile when you enter thru their doors because they appreciate your patronage. Naturally one of the favorites is a Coney dog, a delicious combination of a steamed bun with a hot dog & coney sauce on top, you can add onions, cheese & mustard but you NEVER put ketchup on a hot dog unless your under the age of ten!😳😂

If you’re not into hot dogs you can choose from bratwurst, polish sausage, chicken, tenderloins, egg salad, tuna salad & BLT’s & that’s just the ones I remember eating. They also offer salads for vegetarians. Check out their daily soup specials too.

Ordered 2 footlong chili n cheese hot dogs with 2 orders of onion rings and 2 pops. The hot dogs were Luke warm the chili sauce was too. Plus the chili sauce was so very bland, it tasted like chili powder ,water and hamburger. The shredded cheese they had on them wasn't even melted. The onion rings were over cooked, extra brown and hard. We ate a few bites of our food and threw the rest away. The only thing that was good was the pop. Was looking forward for a long time to try it out and was very disappointed to say the least! The price came to over $30 which is was not worth at all! Will not be back! On to finding a decent chili dog around here! Seems to be a shortage of good chili dogs...
