Found this gem on a New Years evening about 5 years ago. I had worked that day and wanted to take the family out to dinner. We drove all around but found out most places other than fast food restaurants were closed.
I suddenly remembered a Mexican food restaurant on McKinley we’d never tried and decided to drive by to see if they happened to be open. To our delight, they were!
It was appropriate that we dined here again on a New Year’s Day.
If I would’ve written this review five years ago, I would’ve given them “5” stars.
I have noticed a considerable difference in food quality and service since our initial visit. Its not as good as it once was. I’m not saying they have gone downhill, but they were definitely better at one time.
I hope they will eventually return to their once former glory.
I still highly recommend! I keep coming back!
Edit** Monterrey needs to update their online menu. The prices are actually more than what’s listed on...
Read moreThe service was good and friendly, that's the only reason there is 1 star. The food was poor quality. They were out of the drinks we ordered and substituted a cheaper quality drink. Okay I know we are in the mid west, but ranch does not go with everything. Coconut shrimp was over fried, service on a bed of shredded lettuce and cheese, which melted onto the hot shrimps, served with dipping ranch. No! Gross! Coconut Shrimp is to be served with a sweet chili style sauce. The jalapeno poppers, also served on shredded lettuce with cheese with ranch sauce. No again. Gross. It was missing the sweet jelly for a sweet and spicy combo. We had the Fajita with chicken, steak, shrimp and bacon for two. Cheap meat cuts and very little of it. The rice was flavorless, the beans were okay and the guacamole salad was okay, The chips and salsa was fair. Overall very disappointing and not very good quality. I feel we over paid for low a grade...
Read moreThe place was clean and the service was great. The food was absolutely horrible. If you want real authentic food do not go here.
Ordered enchiladas. Nothing about the food was authentic. Flour instead of corn tortillas. The enchiladas were super watery for no reason like they dumped a bottle of sauce on top.
What they served as “beef” in one of the enchiladas looked like mushy dog food. Worse than the one served at taco bell.
The beans definitely came from a can.
The rice was pale and not orange the way its suppose to be. No flavor to it.
Please remove the word authentic from the sign. Or make real mexican food. I am Mexican and would rather have eaten taco bell. Pros: they have beer. There is a bar upstairs, reasonably priced with decent service.
Cons: The most disappointing, flavorless“Mexican” food I’ve had in my life.
Strange corny quotes...
