I really don't understand why this place is so popular, the food is pretty bland and seems to be thrown together. As another reviewer stated, the owner or whoever the male is that works the front counter seats friends first as I seen a few customers come in 20 minutes or so after myself and were seated without reservations within 5 minutes. I had no table preference and told the man that I'd sit anywhere but still waited over 30mins. The service was quite slow because the waiting staff seemed overwhelmed and hectic. The menu is not impressive and looks like a child put it together with more of a focus on breakfast (mostly omelettes). I had the Cajun Chicken Flatbread which came out to look like a pathetic sandwich thrown together from a quick idea. It had a thin line of Cajun sauce that was gone after one bit, thus leaving the sandwich very bland with no flavoring at all. The amount of onions put on the sandwiches I noticed was quite ridiculous as a sad attempt to add some sort of flavor. Most sandwiches are filled with lettuce to make them seem bigger with a tiny portion of meat. I got potato salad as a side which was a big worthless mistake. The potato salad was the most strange and disgusting tasting I've had. My waitress agreed that it was not appealing and was in no way even close to a traditional potato salad. Overall I just did not care for this establishment whatsoever, it's one of the most disappointing restaurants I've been to in the South Bend/Mishawaka area and is overhyped. Some may like it, but I myself won't recommend it to anyone and will never come back.

I have frequented this establishment on several occasions since it's inception! It's hit or miss! I went for Brunch on a Sunday it was a HIT the French toast and bacon was on point! Today was a definite MISS! My cousin had plans to have a wonderful lunch for her birthday in a private room with several of her close friends! There was a phone ringing the whole duration of our meal! We ignored it! Our waitress (whose name slips my mind just like every request we gave her even down to menus) was so scattered I didn't know if I should feel sorry for her or be upset! I'm going with upset she was the WORST! NOW when it came time for this Pink Champagne cake that was $80 our waitress knew what was happening and passed the buck to Scott. Scott is some form of management who comes in with this glum look to inform us that there is NO CAKE! We asked the waitress 3 times for said cake and she kept saying let me get my manager. Not only was the cake paid for in advance but the baker was also tipped in advance. Scott says "we can offer you a different cake at a discount"! I failed to mention this room was decorated in pink and gold and we're expecting Pink Champagne Cake! At this point it is confirmed that Jonathan who is also in some type of managerial position is actually the culprit behind CakeGate! Lucky for him he's not there. Scott could have taken this opportunity to be a Hero and save face by offering to give a cake for free but he chose otherwise and now I must drag him and this establishment! They did refund the money spent on the cake but its the PRINCIPALITIES!****

We went out for a nicer breakfast to celebrate our anniversary and were relatively dissatisfied with our experience. I’ll start with the bad because who doesn’t love ending on a good note. We ordered lattes with a double shot which weren’t on the menu and they ended up being $7 each. They were not very good, dull espresso flavor and minimal creaminess. I didn’t even finish it. It was early so there was minimal wait staff and where we were seated was out of view of where they stand so often times when we needed something we’d find ourselves waiting or needing to get up and go ask for it. The waitress was kind but not very attentive. To eat we ordered the huevos rancheros, breakfast burrito, and cinnamon stuffed French toast with cream cheese and fresh strawberries. Both our savory dishes didn’t have much visual appeal but they actually tasted great. The huevos were a little on the cooler side but the flavor made up for any lack. We loved the French toast. The cinnamon bread outside had a nice crunch that balanced the soft doughieness of the inside. So while the food flavors were good the cost and lack of ambiance and service wasn’t worth what you can get at many local diners that also have great flavor.

Came into our usual spot for lunch today. We got our normal side salads with the sweet vinaigrette, and well the dressing was not right. This is the second time we’ve gotten the dressing and it was bad, the first time manager did admit that someone in the kitchen had used smoked paprika instead of regular paprika. This last time we went in, we had told our waitress the dressing was off again, she was the same waitress as last time and she remembered from last time it was not right. We changed our side house salads to sweet potato fries since we specifically go here for the sweet vinaigrette dressing. We finally got our food and my sandwich had the olive spread that I had asked for on the side; situation was fixed as our server took it back to have it remade. We got the bill and looked over it, seeing they had charged us for the sweet potato fries after she had asked if we would like a different side since we did not want the salads. Also, we had been charged for my sandwich that did not come out right. Not once, did a manager come over and say sorry or offer any type of discount, we had to specifically ask to complain about it. When CHRIS came over, he said, “I heard you guys have a problem with the bill.” We explained that we come in quite a bit and we think it is rediculious that we got charged for sweet potato fries when the salads were not right, and that even though the sandwich was an easy fix they never offered anything to make it right. When we said the dressing was not right to Chris he said, “We have not changed it, it has been the same.” As a fellow member of the restaurant business we were taught you should never argue with your customers and the customer is always right. I have never met a manager so rude and disrespectful and not understanding why we were complaining about the bill. We finally got the bill adjusted after he rudely walked away. Long story short, we were regulars here on a regular basis and enjoy the atmosphere. Our server was great, but when a place has bad management it makes you not want to go back and spend your money with that business. Needless to say, we will not be coming back anytime soon. Especially when Chris, the manager is on duty. We will be taking a break from this place for awhile, and Chris I hope when you get customers who complain, you actually take the time to go over and ask what is wrong rather then hearing...

I took my daughter for a Bday Brunch at Uptown and I am glad we finally got around to trying the restaurant. Our server Jessica V or Z O cannot recall was very good. Truly great service...especially for brunch. She was super efficient, sensed we were on a slower pace than the rest of her customers and not pushy or rushing to turn the station. Thank you also for the truffle and Happy birthday dessert...that was very thoughtful. Our food was very good, Uptown does a plated brunch with 6-7 festured items and their whole breakfast menu available. If you need to eat a bit lighter Uptown has quite a few healthy options. We both chose from the brunch menu..I had the heuvos rancheros and my daughter had Carnitas Benedict. My HR was good..served with green and chipotle red chilli sauces. The beans were creamy smooth, alongside there was a fresh salsa cruda and guacamole. The tomatoes in the salsa were actually halfway ripe which was a nice change from the tasteless waterbags most fresh tomatoes are this time of the year. Not dead ripe summer tomato quality but pretty good. My eggs were.poached perfectly and there was the right amount.of cheese. I like cheese but some places overdo it. My guacamole was over processed and a little bland. The chorizo was good quality and had been precooked to remove some extra fat , then grilled crispy...really great idea.Overall the HR were extremely good though. My daughters Carnitas benedict was served with real hollandaise spike with fresh jalepeno, very tasty, smooth and nice ribbon consistency. The carnitas were soft, maybe a touch underseasoned, but falling apart tender and not greasy at all. She recieved the same salsa cruda as a garnish. It was served with some red skin potato cottage fries. I tried a bite of the carnitas with some hollandaise and they were great. The brunch was a good value..2 coffees and 2 very nice entrees were 30 plus tip- nothing to complain about there. We will definitely return- I am already curious to see what their regular menu holds in store. Thank you jessica for the great service and thank you Uptown kitchen for some...

So I grandma kept asking me to bring her back her since I had never been. She was sure she had a giant side salad with her meal. We got there and asked for a low table since grandma uses a walker. They had us shuffle all the way to the back of the restaurant likely to keep her walker out of the way, but could have sat against the windows up front and saved grandma the walk. Took me awhile to peruse the menu. They were out of the huevos rancheros which was a shame would have liked to try them. Finally I settled on the breakfast burrito and grandma got the Reuben and a side salad. We asked the waitress about appitizers and she recommended the fried greenbeans which I didn't see on the menu. I ordered the draft special craft beer which was a wonderful raspberry wheat. All of the food came out at once and grandma was a little disappointed the side salad wasn't as large as she remembered (oh grandma!). The green beans were great and her sandwhich looked good too. My burrito left a lot to be desired. The chorizo was very bland. I actually added salt to the thing to try and achieve flavor. The salsa on the side was surprisingly spicy and I enjoyed it. Unfortunately the next TWO beers I ordered the waitress came back and apologized they were out of. I settled on a third, one of the replacement IPAs not on the menu. It was OK. Grandma pointed out that there was silverware and napkins on the floor near our table. Also, in the middle of our meal (it wasn't very busy) a worker came out and started to mop and clean.. but then left the mop bucket in the middle of the dining are (what!?) Overall I was pretty disappointed that such a seemingly nice establishment wasn't better managed or organized. The food while creative was bland and nothing special. While I'm always happy to find a new place that caters to the craft beer crowd, this one was out of 2/3 that I wanted to try. Won't be my first choice on our weekly...
