I wanted to try this as I see a lot of cars in their parking lot, I thought "must be good". I admit I only tried one item on their menu, but that was enough, I won't go back. I was quickly seated. Chips and salsa were delivered to the table. Chips seemed almost baked, salsa tasted like Pace picante straight out of a jar. Not much flavor. I decided to try their chili rellano, but was told it was really just ground beef and cheese with some bell pepper in it. (What??) So opted for what they called their "tipico" which was a cheese stuffed poblano pepper, battered and fried. When it came it was smothered in queso and was extremely greasy. (I mean puddles of grease) The reviewer that called Mexico Viejo "Midwest Mexican" is right. This is most definitely not Mexican food. It is to Mexican food what Taco John's is to Mexican food. I wanted to like it...

Took our order before a bunch of people were even seated. The people seated way after us received their food before us. I asked where our food was and the said “our cooks are super busy!” Said I understood that but we had our order in way before these people were even seated. Then after the food was delivered no one stopped at the table like we were at fault!! This wasn’t the first time this has happened!! It’s too bad cause we were regular customers, we stood by them during Covid and way before that. The food is good but it’s not good enough to overcome the really...

We flew to Yankton from Omaha to hike at lewis clark lake for the day. After hiking we went to Mexico Viejo for a late lunch. The decor was nice in a mexico theme. The booths were cozy for us and perfect for a date. The service was excellent. The waiter was very friendly and very attentive. We ordered the beef enchiladas and just shared a plate because we were not super hungry and beans and rice and chips and salsa and everything was perfect. Just what we had hoped for. We'll definitely go back next time we're in Yankton...

I ordered the garnaches. The service was good, the food was very "meh". The menu made the meat sound amazing, but it seemed to just be regularly cooked pork. The biggest thing was the lack of flavour. It all tasted fairly bland and not the flavour explosion that I expected, both from the genre of food and the explanation in the menu. It all seemed fresh and a good portion, though.

I was visiting from out of town and needed somewhere to eat and this was the place! Food was delicious and service was fast. Plenty of seating indoors. I got the #10 combination which was two beef tacos and rice and beans.
