The restaurant had 3 tables sat, place was empty. Yet it still took at least 15 minutes before the waiter took our drink order. We ordered apps & entrees & 60 minutes later our apps arrived with our entrees, at the same time 🙄. During our very long wait 9 people were waiting to be sat & left. Some of those people the waiter spoke too & I think told them about the long wait & then they chose to leave. No one informed us of a potentially very long wait. The thing was, even if short staffed, it was quiet enough that I would think they could function. I can't hardly see a valid excuse for the poor service.
On to the food, my husband ordered teriyaki salmon, the salmon pictured was a large filet over a bed of rice. What was served was 4 thin strips of over cooked tough salmon absolutely drowned in gelatinous scorched teriyaki sauce on a bed of cabbage & a side of sushi rice.
I ordered shrimp tempura udon soup. What came to me was a beef flavor udon soup with a very bad noodle to broth ratio. There were like 5 noodles in a bowl with 5 cups of broth. The soup had to have been microwaved bc it was 5000 degrees & scalding hot, inedible for atleast 20 minutes, I burned my mouth with my attempts up to that point. The shrimp tempura had 3 shrimps, the rest was deep fried carrot.
This brings me to my other point, this restaurant is over charging by quite a lot. Each of our entrees were at least $20.00. Which I'm happy to pay high prices for high quality food. This place did not meet our expectations. The restaurant I have to compare this place to is Sakura in Norfolk.
Maybe I've been spoiled there, but only comparing prices & food quality, Sakura blows this place out of the water. No I don't have any affiliation with the restaurant it's just a place I go to that has pretty much the exact same menu as this Tokyo place.
The exact same bottle of wine we ordered was $10.00 more at Tokyo than it was at Sakura. Sakura gives larger portions for ayleast 10% less money & the food is cooked at a much higher level of skill.
This review shouldn't come as a surprise, I would have had this discussion with the waiter but when he asked how the food was & I said "not very good" he nodded his head & walked away.
I don't give negative reviews unless it's called for, most of my restaurant reviews are positive. Out of the 100+ restaurants I've reviewed, this is only my 2nd negative review. My hope is that the restaurant will use my criticism to improve. Service & food quality needs to be better to align with their price points. The quality we had last night was closer to that of Japanese cuisine at the shopping mall. Not the finer dining...
Read moreI called on thursday night at 8:30pm to make a take out order and had my husband go to pick up the order. We realized the food was wrong after getting home and then tried to call to let them know not knowing they closed at 9pm, and it was 9:05. So i said id get something else and go in tomorrow to try to resolve the situation. Friday comes along and my husband and I go in to explain the situation and show him the receipt. The man said that my husband should have checked the food and reciept before leaving the restaurant because he couldnt give us free food or our money back after walking out the door as he cannot trust that we got the wrong food or didnt mispronounce things on the phone. He asked us to bring the food back and then they could exchange it. (I had thrown it away because I did not expect them to ask for 20 hour old food.) They refused any other compensation and would not acknowledge that they made any mistake blaming it all on the fact that my husband didnt double check the food. The man was extremely impolite and this whole situation was very disappointing as I love their food and eat...
Read moreDelicious! I tried an Eel Avacado Roll and the A10 Bento Box 🍱! The eel roll was the show stealer, but I already knew it was one of my favorites. The Bento box was also very good, and very filling (I don't recommend ordering both unless you're eatting your feelings like I was). I didn't love the salmon, but I think that was just me, it seemed cooked really well, but just didn't compare to the rest of the food for me. Also, I've tried a very limited amount of bubble teas, but this was the best I've had (the most authentic too, I'm guessing). Finally, I didn't have any problems with service, I went on a slow Saturday afternoon, the server was pretty prompt, and I didn't felt like I waited a long time for my food. The server was also very good at English; as an English speaker, I had no problems understanding him or ordering my food, both of which I have occasionally stuggled with at other Asian...
