What really are roots? A dictionary might tell you that roots are a part of a plant, usually located at the lower portions under the earth, which facilitate the transfer of nutrients to the plant itself. But what I really think roots are, are life. Life. Big word, life. It means forever and that’s a mighty long time, but I’m here to tell you, there’s something else: Southern Roots. Southern Roots, yet again, does not just meet expectations. It does not even just exceed them, it does not even just break records. My friends, Southern Roots is fulfilling needs you did even know you had. Southern Roots is four-dimensional chess compared to Domino’s checkers. Southern Roots had, a few hours before this evening, been a restaurant which, albeit exceptionally good, was still tethered to the Earth, some might even say rooted. But my experience there only a few hours ago at the special IB Lamar Art Exhibition hosted at Southern Roots courtesy of the one, the only, Ms. Mariana Linaldi, broke those chains and rocketed the establishment beyond that of a restaurant. This art exhibition made Southern Roots what I think it has always been, a great melting pot of minds, creativity, and most of all, sheer will. The creativity oozing from its walls this evening flowed out down the parking lot and into the street, attracting visitors far and wide to revel in Southern Roots’ imaginative glory. And in the end, it makes perfect sense. Who wants prose when you can have poetry, truth when you can have mystery, or a restaurant when you could have the birthplace of Gods. This cloak of creativity, aroma of awe, valley of vision is found in one place and one place only: Southern Roots. Additionally, the bathrooms were impeccably clean,...
Read moreNever even made it to Southern Roots. I had a very unpleasant and unprofessional experience just trying to make reservations for a brunch for my daughter who is having a baby. Reserved a table for brunch a month ago and an employee named Yadira called me back and wanted to pressure me into paying for an event. I told her that I didn't want an event, I just wanted brunch. She threatened me that she couldn't guarantee that we would be served or have a good experience if I didn't reserve a party/event. I texted her to confirm that I didn't want the event but wanted to have brunch only and order off menu. All she did was give my message a thumbs up. So I called back to confirm that I had a table reserved for brunch and someone else answered and said that yes, they had me down for a table. Fast forward to today about a month later. I called to confirm my reservation and spoke with Alex. I was informed that there was no reservation on file for me. I told him that I was upset and had already had trouble with the previous reservation attempt. Alex was professional and nice and accommodating. He did let me know that Yadira wasn't working there anymore. Alex did make me a new reservation and told me that there could be some trouble with the kitchen staff being overwhelmed if we ordered off the menu. I made the reservation but decided to call back and cancel the brunch. I didn't feel confidant that my experience would be a good one with all the trouble I was having just trying to make a simple brunch reservation for about 13 people with the ticket being paid by me, not split. Sorry Southern Roots, I really did want to go and have a nice brunch for my daughter, family, and friends. Never made it to your place...
Read moreI’m in the search of a permanent go to brunch place, I had a good time here but not going to be my go to.
Went with a friend to do the usual brunch and catch up, no wait as it was a Friday morning, so not too busy.
Met with my enemy at the table (QR CODE menu) but found some physical menus and took it from there. Glad my friend is against QR menus too because sometimes I feel crazy for it. Server was friendly and attentive.
We ordered the Spanish omelette (I forgot the name but I think this was it) and the 2 Texas shaped waffles to share.
I usually do not order eggs when I go out to eat (I’m one of those people that like to think eggs are cheap and can be eaten at home) Usually I like to order chilaquiles but the omelette sounded really good. I liked how descriptive the menu was and made it easy to choose what to get. The food came out really fast, which I was surprised but also we did order waffles and omelette which don’t take long. It was also not busy at all, but was happy with the speed of service.
Overall, the omelette was good, the cheese was the highlight. I forgot what cheese it was but it really complimented the rest of the flavors. Omelette came with side of potato wedges which were fine.
Waffles were good but nothing super yummy. Felt a bit raw and were missing crunch for me.
Also ordered a peach mimosa, which was alright. Nothing to praise but nothing to complain about either.
It’s a pretty place and it smelled like flowers which was cool. But the food was a bit forgettable. Had a fun time and glad I tried it. Might go back to buy some of the stuff in the little store thing...
