I came here to have breakfast with my family, and the food was good, and the service was ok.
For an appetizer, they bring you a basket with rolls, butter, and tortilla chips. The rolls in the first basket were cold, and the rolls in the second basket were half warm half cold. So the rolls aren’t always served fresh. The baskets also don’t come with very many chips, and they should serve the rolls with jam, not just butter.
For my entree I had the “Chilaquiles Toluqueños: $8.99 A bed of refried beans, topped with corn tortilla chips, chorizo, shredded chicken, onions, cheese, green or red salsa, and one over easy egg.” This plate was really good, and would highly recommend.
For desert I tried the “Concha Caliente con Crema $3.99.” I know that this a dessert they are known for, and I can see exactly why. It’s a good size to share, but it’s so yummy you probably won’t want to. You have the option to choose between a vanilla or chocolate concha.
My fiancé ordered three churros. Those were sadly a disappointment. When you walk into the restaurant they have a basket filled with churros and a hot light on them. So when you see them they look very appetizing, but the churros we were served tasted like they’d been sitting there all morning and were cold. They also do not offer you any sauces to dip your churros in. If you decide to order churros, I advise to tell your server you want them fresh.
Now for the service. It’s ok. The servers do not come to the table often to check on you, or ask if you need anything. I will blame it simply on the fact that this is a busy restaurant. But if business is good, the service should be good. And if your server is good, patrons are more inclined to leave better tips. That’s...
Read moreThis place is a cross between a bakery and a breakfast/lunch place. But it misses on both ends.
The place is usually busy...we sat down and were attended right away. I ordered the biscuits and gravy, chilaquiles...my mother-in-law had grilled chicken breast.
The biggest issue here was the timing of the food...they took a while that by the time my food arrived, it was lukewarm. The biscuits were Mexican style biscuits, which is fine, but it's flavor didn't blend well with the gravy. The gravy wasn't thick nor savory as you can see in the picture. It was also quite huge, the biscuit...but for that much biscuit you need a good thick gravy to accompany it...which it didn't have.
The chilaquiles were lukewarm. IF they had been nice and piping hot, I probably would've enjoyed them, but they were lukewarm at best. My opinion is that held them back because of the grilled chicken breast... wrong choice.
Another issue with this place is the bakery itself. They have rolling doors on the displays where they have their bread options...half the doors were open halfway, so any fly could land on their donuts/empanadas. I told one of th waitresses about it ..that the rolling doors were open. The waitress went and closed it but the door rolled open slightly on its own...the bread itself is actually quite nice. They have a good selection of coffee conchas, empanadas, cookies...etc. Just keep in mind that a few flies probably landed on them already.
The prices here are decent...and the portions are good.
But you will find better chilaquiles and...

I ordered cheese enchiladas from the McAllen location and there was absolutely nothing special about them. They were stiff and the sauce seemed to be entomatada sauce (at least that's exactly what it tasted like). It looked like an american single rolled up in a tortilla and then more singles put on top of them. The cheese's texture was that of a single melting then getting cold again. I bought an order for me and one for my husband. I ate 3 cuz I was starving he couldn't even get past one. I don't think canned fideo is a thing, but if it was, that's what the fideo tastes like. I added lime and a ton of salt to make it a little better. I wanted to try this place because I read so many good reviews on it and saw positive posts on it, but was greatly disappointed by it on this first experience. What's more upsetting is that for the price I paid for this i could have gotten real cheese enchiladas WITH SIDES from a reputable restaurant, nearby. I do have to say their staff was great and very friendly, though.
But Maybe the cheese enchiladas just aren't their forte. I'm still set on giving then a 2nd try on something else (considering their great reviews). So...
