Update:
I will no longer be doing business with Billy's Donuts. For our kids birthdays for the past few years, we've ordered birthday donuts in advance for their birthday. We called to order birthday donuts for my son before his birthday. On his birthday, we called to confirm they were ready for pickup. They told us that they couldn't do it, and that they told someone to call us to let us know. Then we tried to come to a compromise on the order. They flat out lied and said, "We ran out of dough. We're not gonna do it."
My son was looking forward to his tradition of Billy's birthday donuts in the morning. They ruined the start of his special day and showed absolutely no compassion. So long Billy's. My review was the one who helped so many people who were hesitant finally come out to try your donuts.
I lied before. Shipley is better. Save your money.
Initially I was hesitant to try Billy's Donuts due to the large amount of nonsense reviews from social media. I finally put my hesitation aside , and I've visited Billy's Donuts twice so far. Both visits were at completely different times of the week at different times of the day. Here are my thoughts.
Shipley donuts has always been the baseline and the gold standard. To fairly rate any donut, you must sample their original glazed donut. Billy's original glazed donuts blow Shipley completely out of the conversation. Their glaze is well set. You can tell that they rest their donuts before laying them out on the display trays. There is an even glaze all the way around. The consistency of the dough is light, and the donuts are full and round. The glaze is also the perfect consistency. Sometimes donuts will have a glaze that's too runny or too chalky. Their glaze is perfectly set and still retains moisture.
Their boudain kolaches are also out of this world. Plenty of filling, tasty kolache bread with the perfect amount of yeast.
The jalapeno boudain kolache was subpar compared to the regular one.
I look forward to trying the rest of their menu. My kids loved their...
Read moreGood food overall, and I will definitely return to try more items, but I don't think it has won the title of my favorite donut shop yet. The Vietnamese lady serving us was very friendly and nice. She gave me a very important tip: it’s better to go on weekend days when they are much busier and thus fully stock the cases with all their products. We went on a Monday that I had off work and they only filled the cases approximately halfway. -Brisket kolache: 5 stars. This is actually quite good. They packed it full of meat, and the meat was actually pretty flavorful and tender. -Maple bacon doughnut: 4 stars. The bacon was a little too thick and too hard, and I wish there were a few more pieces, but still pretty good overall and I will definitely get it again. Perhaps it might be better next time. -Apple fritter: 4 stars. Too few apple pieces and not enough cinnamon flavor. But the doughnut was soft and fluffy. Not bad but I have had better. -Oreo Glazed Chocolate Cake Donut: 3 stars for me personally just because I’m not a big fan of Oreos nor cake donuts in general, but I wanted to try it. I’m sure other people who do like those ingredients would enjoy it more. -Raspberry Jelly-Filled Donut: my 7-year-old son LOVED it. I thought it was quite good for a jelly donut, but jelly donuts aren’t really my preference. -Blue icing with rainbow sprinkles donut: 4 stars. Not my preference, but I just finished off the remainder of my son’s doughnut. It was pretty good for what it was. -Variety tray of iced donut holes with sprinkles: my...
