The Hungry Dog is a splendid little place that does not belong in a town like Mitchell- because it deserves so much more recognition than it may ever get.. So here I am, trying to expel that as much as I can!

You’ve never seen so many ways of eating a hot dog until you’ve come here, it was a lot to take in. And they have burgers, chicken, and milkshakes as well. The lady who rung us up had that typical Midwest charm and she was super sweet.

This place has the feel of a restaurant that would be featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives- I can totally envision Guy going to town with a deep fried hot dog, a mac n cheese dog, and a breakfast burger to top it off. I tried the popper dog, which was a fried hot dog that had jalapeño and a raspberry sauce. I’m not a huge hot dog or fried food person but this was pretty darn good. The hot dog was REAL- just the meat alone was fantastic and super high quality, which really made me respect this place even more.

They have my vote for a Triple...

Google had the closing time listed incorrectly, so we arrived just after the owner and his family had closed for the night. When he realized that we were from out of town, he insisted that we allow him to reopen and serve us. THIS is how to run a small business!!! He could not have been nicer and took the time to explain how their food was sourced and made. His hospitality was truly appreciated, as we were really looking forward to trying the unique menu offerings.

My daughter and I had hot dogs and my son had a burger. All were excellent. We also tried tots, fries, and the cheese balls. The cheese balls had a nice breading and were excellent with ranch. The fries and tots were good as well.

To reiterate, the menu items are truly unique with many imaginative combinations. The hot dogs are specially made by a local meat locker and are absolutely delicious. I wish that we lived closer, as I would love to visit on a...

Impressive little roadside hotdog and burger joint serving seriously good food. Eat here.

We stopped at Hungry Dog on a whim on our way to the Corn Palace and we were so glad we did. What a pleasant surprise. Do yourself a favor and skip the big chains and come here, you will not be disappointed.

We ordered a Mac Dog, Chicago Dog, a plain dog and onion rings. They were all delicious. Huge hotdogs with quality ingredients. The onion rings had perfectly light and crispy batter. We saw other patrons get different burgers and dogs that looked equally enviable.

Service was friendly and prompt. The owner even stopped by our table to check on us while we ate outside under an umbrella. He asked how we liked the food and told us they locally sourced the sausages.

I would eat anything on this menu and would be back weekly if it was closer to home. Next time we through Mitchell, Hungry Dog will be the...

We travel full time in our RV and try to find small mom & pop places like this. Let me tell you, this was fantastic! Normally my dogs are dressed with mustard only, but I went for the Wrangler Tangler and was not disappointed! Locally made dog with bacon bits, Texas toothpicks (deep fried jalapeño sticks), pepper jack cheese, and cajun mayo. Hubby got the Chief Dog - chili, cheese, onions. We rounded out this healthy meal with onion rings and oh boy - lightly battered and fried - get an extra side of that cajun mayo for your dipping sauce, it’s that good! Not a dog fan? No worries, they do burgers and chicken sandwiches too. And if you’re thirsty, they have at least 12 flavors of shakes and malts! If we weren’t leaving town tomorrow I might be tempted to go again!
