After a few weeks the crowd seemed to thin out a bit so on the way home my wife and I decided to stop in for a quick bite. We were greeted by a very friendly lady who seemed more than happy to see us. This is always a nice perk when you feel welcomed into a restaurant. We both ordered the grand slam and three beignets with the sweet cream sauce. We found a small two person table in the belly of the floor and settled in to wait for our food. The beignets came out first and they were very pretty. Now I am no huge beignet fan but these looked nice and golden and liberally sprinkled with powdered sugar. We tore into them and they were perfectly cooked. The sweet cream sauce was amazing and we quickly finished all three. But as I said before I am no big beignet fan. I was here for the burger.
The Burger: We received our burgers about 20 minutes after ordering. With the amount of people I think this was pretty quick service as I think their burgers are made fresh to order. The first thing I noticed is the size of the burger. It is very small. But its not always about the size but rather the entire burger itself ( bun selection, cheese prep/placement, condiment spread, consistency of meat, freshness of dressings, etc). I ordered my burger with onions, bacon, cheese, and BBQ sauce. I will go ahead and say that the best part of the burger was the bun. It was a sweet tasting bun that had nice consistency and added ample protection from the meat/condiments. This is crucial as an insufficient bun can cause a burger to fall apart. This was not the issue as the literal meat of this burger was too small. The burger was cooked well it just lacked any wow factor. The bacon sat uninspired on the patty. It was limp and tasteless. Not cooked crispy at all. Why in the world even put stringy bacon on anything, especially a burger. I eat bacon on almost all of my burgers and a few crispy slices of bacon can really add an entire new level to the burger. I actually ended up removing an entire piece because it failed to add any substance to the bite. The cheese was not even properly melted and still had straight corners. A burger should never leave the kitchen if the cheese is not curved and touching patty on all four corners. This is burger cheese melt 101 and its sad when it is not attended to. The BBQ sauce was spread thin and failed to add much to the bite. The onions were actually the second best part of the burger. And well if I'm singling out onions as a high point we are indeed scraping bottom. I finished the entire burger and was still hungry. My wife even finished her entire burger and I can recall very few times she has finished her burgers. Usually that is left to me.
The fries were overcooked "crispy emptiness" and served with French's ketchup. Why in the world would you sabotage your place of business with this abomination of a condiment? It's a travesty and I actually shuddered when I saw the package. Serve Heinz. Its what everybody wants. Case closed. So on top of the burned fries I had no ketchup to lather over them.
Sadly I left disappointed and hungry. The burgers were small, the cheese was not melted, the bacon not crispy, the fries too crispy (maybe the fry cook should swap with the bacon cook)? Hopefully some of these things can be fixed. I love supporting local businesses and I would really love to see a bigger burger with a bit more...
Read moreI’ve been eating here since they opened, so I hate writing a negative review, but my visits have been steadily going downhill and today was just the final straw. The place is filthy. It goes beyond the floors being sticky from powdered sugar, the floors are just dirty, dirt and trash and crumbs all over. There is dust coating the exhaust hood and the screens and wires in the area they cook in. The ketchup was totally empty and the whole drink area was nasty. Spilled ketchup and other condiments that had dried on and smeared into the surface, not to mention the dust and grime under the drink machine too. There were two employees there when I was there and one did wipe down the tables and drink area, but the drink area was still nasty even after being cleaned. The place they store the cups right behind the register is dirty and several days worth of cups are just stacked out in the open directly on the dirty surface. The popcorn machine is dirty and there’s no telling if the popcorn is even fresh, I won’t try it. The little lounge area is gross and it’s rare that any of the tables in general are clean when I’ve been for at least a year or more.
I loved this place when they opened, but as the years have gone by it seems neglected and in desperate need of a facelift and some attention. The food was mediocre at best today and has been the last few times I’ve been there. The burgers have gotten greasy with old dry too thick onions being used on them, everything is underseasoned, the fries used to be homemade and they switched to basic frozen fries way back and they’ve never been as good, the fried pickles have gotten soggy and aren’t good anymore, and the beignets are very inconsistent and I’ve stopped ordering them at all. I kept going back and giving them chances because I want to support local and it used to be clean and the food was consistently good, but unless something changes I won’t be back. The owner needs to do random drop ins to ensure quality and cleanliness. Gotta protect your investment because managers and employees just won’t ever care for your business like you would. With as much as Wemo is growing and developing there’s a golden opportunity for this place to grow with it and thrive, but it will require attention, effort and reinvesting into some minor updates to the inside to keep people coming back. Get some tables that don’t wobble for starters. Consider getting the window that’s been shattered for years repaired. I’d also consider a playlist refresh and maybe playing live sports instead of old games that seem on a loop, just a suggestion. Maybe hire an overnight professional cleaner. As it is I’m afraid it won’t be around much longer since there’s rarely anybody there the last year or so when I’ve been and it would be a shame for it to close. I hope it’s not already too late to...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I gave this place a try about 2 weeks ago. I enjoyed my beignet burger and she had the sliders. I also had the queso bacon fries. It was a good meal and a nice place to try.
I figured this weekend, I’d treat my mom, girlfriend, and little sister to it. We arrived maybe around 7:30? I ordered all of the food. We got 3 burgers, a slider order, 2 freedom fries, a queso/bacon fry, onion rings, 6 beignets, and 3 drinks. The total was about $80 and I tipped about $10 bringing it to $90.
My mom and little sister arrived and we were brought our food. My girlfriend, little sister, and myself enjoyed our meals and my mom did was well. Until my mom was eating and my sister stopped her. There was a hair on my moms lip. The hair was too short to be my moms.
It had food cooked on it. I brought this to the attention of Carly, the girl who took our order and she took the 1/2 eaten burger away from the table. Well we finished our meal and had no resolution from Carly. So I approached her and asked what is being done. She said she threw it away (Duh, who would eat it?) Apparently, she hadn’t even considered making a new one/refunding it. She called her manager who advised her to refund us and she gave us back $7.49 to the penny! Great counting, but wheres the tax? That’s $0.749 missing. Second, they charge a credit card fee as well that increases as your order increases. That wasn’t refunded either. No apologies or anything. Allegedly, my little sister said the cook was laughing at us. Lesson, don’t tip before the meal!
Another thing, my mom owned a business. The credit card charge is usually a one time fixed amount. For instance, most asian stores charge a flat $0.50 fee. This is just another way they price gouge us.
This restaurant will never get my business again, it’s a shame too because the burger wasn’t bad! Beignets are always overcooked here and it looks like the oil doesn’t get changed a lot because of the dark...
