Well, the place smells like smoke as you walk up, usually a good sign. I'm not sure what they're smoking in there cause it can't be the meats! I ordered up a super sampler hoping I'd have some tasty leftovers. Nope, it's all going in the garbage. I'd go back and demand a refund, but they seem like the kind of folks that wouldn't understand. I went here cause Google has them pegged at 4.2. Google doesn’t usually let me down, but today Google and I aren’t talking. Who is so tasteless as to give this place any rating at all? The ribs were extremely chewy and exactly like my friend does them in the oven when he cooks them in 2.5 hours, no flavor. The beef was dry and roast like, not smoked brisket in any capacity. The pork shoulder was more like a roast and definitely not pulling apart. The chicken tasted as if cooked over charcoal that's barely alive, not a smoke flavor, but like eating carbon monoxide. None of the meat had a smoke ring. When I asked if there was sauce in my go bag, they asked if I wanted extra and informed me that they slather it in sauce for you. No respectable barbecue joint does that. They let you decide if the meat requires it. The sauce sucked and was run of the mill. The garlic bread was hard as a rock, maybe been sitting for three hours in a warmer. Couldn't even bite that bread. Finally, my fried okra was dry, they didn't offer me ranch or anything for it. Don't just...
Read moreNot sure how this place is so highly rated. Ya'll apparently never had good BBQ. Its definitely nothing special. Me and some family decided to stop in from our road trip to Mobile. The people were great. The food on the other hand. I ordered the Super Platter expecting a huge helping of food. Definitely not. Any other place I would be struggling to finish what;s on my plate. First thought when it was placed in front me, was WTH is this sauce poored all over my food? And this is really my only option? I dont like that. I like to put my own sauce on my food. I like to try to the food without it to see how legit it is. The sauce had a weird flavor to it. Not terrible. But definitely not something Id poor all over my food. No real flavor to anything. The chicken had a good smoke to it, and was pretty tender. But the portion was small. The brisket/beef strips were dry. And only thing I could taste was the sauce. The ribs were ok. Not as tender as they couldve been. Only thing I really liked was the baked beans and coleslaw. The beans were sweet and had a little kick to them. I also ordered some Peach Cobbler. Were in the South, close to Georgia, it should be good, right? No. No real flavor to it. Couldnt taste the peaches. And it was very runny. Will not return. Oh and what kind of place doesnt have Mac n Cheese on the main menu? Only 2 days a week?...
Read moreHow can anyone say this is the best BBQ they've ever had? Is this the only BBQ they've ever had? Buccees has better BBQ. I honestly think this is in the bottom 5 BBQ restaurants I've ever been to.
The biscuits were dense and had a strong yeasty flavor, the potato salad had a strange aftertaste, and they only have. BBQ sauce that tastes like watered down ketchup with liquid smoke. The BBQ beef is tough like a well done steak, don't make the mistake of thinking is brisket because it's not. The sausage was pretty bad, too. The BBQ chicken was good but full of gristle, they don't give breast meat just 2 thighs and 2 drumsticks. The only good part of the meal was the french fries.
It looks like it hasn't been remodeled since they opened in 1983, I felt like I was having a fever dream the whole time.
When you get the check, you have to walk up to a counter and pay there instead of having it done at your table, but the person who was supposed to do it was on a smoke break so we stood there awkwardly waiting for almost 5 minutes before she came back in saying "yes I'll take your money haha"
The only saving grace was the server was a nice old woman who made sure our drinks were full.
I'm not going back here any time soon. I don't recommend you even try it, just go to Moe's and save...
