Four first-time visitors in Mobile for a convention at the USA Mitchell Center; two from Atlanta area and two from Biloxi. We were greeted right away through the door about 5:30-6pm and asked if we preferred a table or booth, we opted for the table and David was our waiter. English wasn't his first language nor Spanish ours, but another waiter translated and all of us got what we ordered. Beer and Soda comes in a single-use container (no free soda refills). Sweet tea could be half as sweet and still be called sweet, so they need a little help with that one. Between us, we tried street tacos (they make their own shells), burritos, pupusas and soup. Mine was Caldo de Res, which they only serve on Fridays/Saturdays, and it was Delicious!! They served it in a big bowl like pho, with rhutabaga, cabbage, carrots, a mini ear of corn and a couple beef ribs in the bottom of the bowl. Totally worth the cost, though it was a little messy to eat. Also no oxtail but really not missed in my bowl! Their bathroom sink cleans hands fine, David already supplied us with extra napkins for any spills at the table and i had enough left over to take home, so it's all good! Highly Recommend this place for excellent authentic food, relaxed atmosphere, excellent combined wait staff and convenient downtown location. We all had a great time close to where we were already meeting and we will likely return before going back home! Try it...
Read moreWe ordered burritos steak fajitas and Fajitas Texana. Fajitas Texana was missing steak in it. Only chicken and shrimp. When we told that to our waitress she brought us a separate plate with steak fajitas in it. Nice but that’s not how you are supposed to serve fajitas. Later I believe was the owner, brought a big plate of meat we believe was pork fajitas. Again it was nice of them but we don’t eat pork and we didn’t ask for any of those, just good ol’ fajitas. We kindly said no, thank you. We love Mexican food but the fajitas meat was more on the sweet side and did not taste good at all. No salad next to fajitas, Forks and knives were plastic! Drinks- coke and water were both bottled so no refills. They charged $3.45 for one small bottle of coke and $1 for water. It was too pricey and unfortunately not good food for $17 lunch fajitas. We paid over $40 for two. Again our server was trying to help and they were trying even though we didn’t complain but hard to communicate if you don’t speak Spanish. We were wondering why the restaurant was empty during lunch time located right across the university, now we know. Unfortunately, not going back again. I am giving 3 stars just because they were trying to do something with out asking us. Nice restaurant environment but they really need to work on the quality and taste of the food they...
Read moreGave them 2 stars, because the margarita was fantastic. A server at a restaurant in the United States should be able to comprehend English. My wife and I each want 1 tamale. (Fantastic tamales too, but....) After a battle, trying to get her to understand that we don't want to share 1 tamale, but would like 1 each, we ended up with 1 tamale.... Idk if she was just effing with me or what, because the 2nd tamale came right out. My wife also wanted 1 pupusa, which are quite delicious.. we ended up with 2... I wanted the carne asada... Iconic Mexican dish... I ended up with an over marinated piece of leather that was really difficult to chew. They gave me a butter knife to cut it, and that was quite the task... I want this place to be good, because they really have something special in that habanero sauce, and their tamales omg... But my wife claims she'll never go back. Guess I'll just have to grab some tamales to go while I'm working right down...
