The first time we went we were served by the bartender (?) I think. She was lovely and attentive.
Me and my coworker went today for a nice quick lunch but unfortunately it wasn’t so. Our server, Kiera F., was tending to maybe 3 tables including ours and from the beginning her attention would heavily lay on a larger group’s table. I get it, more people more tips, but come on. My partner’s order was incorrect and sent back, throughout the wait (which was exceedingly long for a mistake that should’ve been prioritized) our server never once came by to apologize or even update us. In fact she never even turned to look at us. Not a glance. But believe me.. that large group was getting everything they wanted and more. When the fixed order finally arrived, miss Kiera didn’t even stand in front of the table to set it down, she kinda just put it there as she was walking onto a different area. This time putting blame onto the cooks for the mix up as she walked away. Whatever. I was already done with my own plate by this time, my coworker worked through her French toast rapidly as we had to head out for work. She finished and the bus boy came by to pick up our plates, then we waited. And waited. Then waited some more. Staring at the large group getting their checks taken, getting offered drinks to go, and even a few minutes of conversation with our server, whom had passed our table at last six times without once looking over to us. It wasn’t until I stopped the hostess to inquire about the manager (who I only wanted so I could get my dammed check and nothing else) that our server looked and quickly came over. We got our check, paid, and left late to work.
I get it. Big tables pay better and most times I don’t even care about the attentiveness as long as I get my food and my check timely, I’m easy, but this just ticked me off.
Then she has the audacity to get upset about me asking for the manager. I literally just wanted my check so I could leave, I don’t care to complain to the boss.. but my boss tore onto me for being late, and I feel that wouldn’t have happened if we had gotten any other server.
Food was good. Great job, cooks 👍
——— Went back a third time 8/16
I went with my coworkers this morning and our waitress Jacquelyn Q. was on top of it the whole time. She was super attentive and nice. Our food was delicious and the iced coffees were great according to my colleagues. We’ll definitely be back to try other menu items 👍 I’m putting more stars on...
Read moreAtmosphere 10/10: Visited today for lunch. The atmosphere was great. Everything was neat and clean. The staff was extremely nice and helpful from the greeters to the waiters.
Service 7.5/10: The service was good. Our waiter was nice and helpful. It did take awhile for our waiter to check on us after meals were delivered but maybe that was due to them being busy at 10:30am. Had one small issue with dish but worked around it due to waiter not returning soon enough.
Food 6/10: The presentation of the food was amazing, everything looked absolutely perfect like it was out of a magazine. We ordered the shrimp and grits. The Taste was ok, they were seasoned well (a bit too much in spots). The grits we received were very lumpy. It's fine to see a lump or two but our entire meal was lumpy (10-12 lumps per plate). I don't know if this was just a bad batch but either way this was my first experience. The shrimp on top of the grits were lackluster. They didn't appear seared or anything, they tasted like they were warmed and put on top last minute. A bit disappointed because the taste didn't match up with the appearance. Next, I ordered a side of blueberry doughnuts 6.5/10. They looked amazing as expected. They tasted like blueberry cake doughnuts which is good but they were a bit dry. I know they were deep fried but I wish they didn't taste so dry on their own. Maybe my batch cooked too long. The blueberry sauce that came with it wasn't as expected. It tasted like store bought jar sauce and was served at room temp. Maybe warming it would help but definitely didn't taste homemade unfortunately. Note: the shrimp and grits have cilantro sprinkled on top which I dislike. If you aren't a fan of cilantro then be sure to tell the waiter. I didn't subtract this from the rating but would have wanted it without it. The waiter didn't return in time as I mentioned before so I worked around it and took off as much as possible.
Parking 5/10: We found parking with no problem due to two available spaces but I can see how Parking would be a nightmare had we arrived 20 minutes later. Also parking is very tight in places.
Overall 6.5/10: I read all the positive reviews and had really high hopes. The food is the only thing keeping my rating low. The atmosphere and people were great! I may give them another try but for now I'm OK with my one visit. There are some other menu items that look great that I want to try, I'm just concerned that the food will not be as good...
Read moreRestaurant Review: The Toasted Yolk
Our recent visit to The Toasted Yolk left us with mixed feelings. While we were excited to try their highly recommended breakfast dishes, our experience was less than satisfactory.
The Churro Donuts
We started with the Churro donuts, served with caramel dipping sauce. Unfortunately, the sauce tasted more like butter than caramel and had an overwhelming amount of butter on top, overshadowing the caramel flavor. Additionally, the donuts themselves had an unexpected spicy kick, reminiscent of cayenne pepper rather than the warm, sweet cinnamon we were anticipating.
Kids' Meals: French Toast and Pancakes
Ordering for our kids was another challenge. We requested French toast and pancakes, hoping to substitute the meat for eggs since our children don’t eat meat. Surprisingly, the restaurant wouldn't allow this substitution but suggested ordering two sides of eggs instead. This meant we had to pay for meat that we didn't want, which was quite disappointing.
The French toast was cooked well, but the pancakes were a letdown. They were thick and doughy in the center, making them unappetizing. My daughter didn't eat them at all. To add to our dissatisfaction, the kids' fruit was also forgotten.
Veggie Scramble and Grits
My wife and I opted to share the veggie scramble with queso on the side and a side of grits. The queso never arrived as requested. Both the grits and the scramble were bland, lacking any distinctive flavor. This was particularly disappointing as we were expecting a flavorful and hearty meal.
Outside seating: We sat outside and I would definitely invest in some fans out there.
Overall Experience
Overall, our experience at The Toasted Yolk was underwhelming. From the missteps with our orders to the lackluster flavors, it was clear that the restaurant fell short of our expectations. While the French toast was a rare highlight, the numerous issues we encountered overshadowed this positive note. We hope The Toasted Yolk can address these concerns and improve their service and food quality...
