4 stars. Why? I haven't tasted the rest of the menu. I have numerous visits in a one month period to this Mexican restaurant. An astonishing feat since there has never been a Mexican Restaurant I would recommend or eat at where their food was on par with my favorite place in Stockton. Let's break it down... Taco Tuesday! One dollar tacos all day! That's right you read correctly from opening to close all tacos (carnitas, el pastor, pollo, carne asada) are a dollar. Their Molcajete are awesome - a meal and dipping sauce all in one. The chef turns the molcajete upside on the flames on the gas range so when he pours the sauce into it, it bubbles and boils over. DELICIOUS! A good selection of condiments and salsas at the salsa bar. I am not a fan of the stand in line, order, get your fountain drink, sit down and wait til your food arrives, but the food is so good I do not mind. If you drive south on Carpenter too fast your are going to miss the entrance to El Capitan Mariscos & Taqueria. Slow down as you past the ARCO gas station and pull in. Ample...
Read moreI can not make this up. I ordered the "Aguachiles" which was $27, yes, TWENTY SEVEN DOLLARS. Usually aguachiles comes with shrimp but this place must be VEGAN because the shrimp was NOT in the room with us…so basically they charged me $27 for a cucumber soup. Like if y'all need the $20 just ask but I was not born yesterday and the little TOP RAMEN shrimp y'all put in there does not justify $27. I will not be returning, if you're looking for aguachile or anything worth your money in Modesto, I suggest Guayabitos or culichi. I'm willing to pay a $100+ tip at culichi and get exactly what I expect. Than $70 here and get shrimp they took out of a top ramen cup. Two people came up to ask if everything was okay and they both did not even care. The older lady said she would tell them... who? Because you telling anyone will not give me my time and $$ back lady. Be for REALLSSS. First red flag was the half empty chip basket. Y'all robbed me today but...
Read moreSo let's just start off by saying that I am a spice aficionado! That being said, I always like to see which taqueria actually tries or even has a spicy version of their food, my baseline starts at Habanero peppers and I enjoy both Ghost and Carolina Reaper peppers.
So as usual, I ordered a Super Burrito and asked for it to be as spicy as they can make it, hoping for some kind of kick to it. After ordering my food only the girl who took my order asked if I wanted anything to drink. I said no that's ok.
I received my food and bit into it, as expected it wasn't spicy and I think maybe they put in some spicy salsa, or hot sauce in there but it wasn't even spicy at all, at least not to my standards :(. To make matters worse, the cook didn't know how to roll/fold a burrito so that one end of it blew out in the packaging which didn't add to...
