As a lifelong bookworm, I couldn't contain my excitement when I first heard about the Book Bar in Mokena. A sanctuary for book lovers, I thought—a place where I could finally escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, curl up with a good book, and connect with like-minded individuals over a steaming cup of coffee. To my dismay, the reality was far from the tranquil haven I had envisioned. The interior, while decorated with literary touches, was plagued by soaring ceilings and uncovered windows that amplified every sound. Conversations and the tapping of laptop keys drowned out the quiet atmosphere I had craved. I had high hopes for a warm, inviting space to enjoy a good read and a tasty beverage among fellow book lovers. While I appreciate the effort to create a unique atmosphere, I found the experience lacking in several ways. The book-themed décor was charming, but the high ceilings and bare windows made for an uncomfortably loud environment. Though they are a new business, addressing the acoustics with cozy curtains or rugs would make a world of difference. It was disheartening to see people focusing on their laptops and wearing earbuds rather than engaging with one another over a love of books. How could a place that markets itself as a sanctuary for book lovers be so overrun with tech-absorbed patrons? The clatter of keyboards and the sight of distracted faces made me feel as though I had walked into a Starbucks rather than a cozy retreat for bibliophiles. My disappointment was palpable, as the atmosphere made it impossible to indulge in quiet reading or engaging discussions about literature. The noise level made conversation nearly impossible, defeating the purpose of a shared literary haven. It seemed it was happy catering to those engrossed in technology rather than to those who truly appreciate the beauty of a good book
A fireplace would be a lovely touch in the future, but for now, some simple soundproofing measures would do wonders to create the quiet retreat we bookworms crave.
Despite my disappointment with the atmosphere, I must commend the Book Bar's incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Their warmth and hospitality were a bright spot amidst the chaos, showcasing their dedication to providing excellent service. The food was enjoyable, but the beverages left something to be desired. My coffee arrived in a small to-go cup, which felt impersonal and rushed, especially when others received elegant glass cups. My friend's hot cocoa, filled halfway with foam, was equally disappointing. The scattered throw rugs, though a nice touch, were in need of a thorough cleaning. Attention to such details would greatly enhance the overall experience. I genuinely hope they consider these suggestions, as a no-tech policy and improved soundproofing would elevate the space and make it the enchanting literary haven we all desire. In the meantime, I may continue my search for the perfect sanctuary at my...
Read moreLet me start off by saying....I know it's new and it's a neat concept but after seeing the post on social media and actually going there it is nothing like I pictured it. I thought there would be alit more books. I went on a Wednesday afternoon. The place was packed. It was very loud with the music cranked and all the customers trying to talk over the music. So many people were walking around trying to find a place to sit. Need more seating!! The small tables along the back wall that had seating for 2 were all occupied by individuals on their iPad and laptops and it looked like those tables don't turnover that often. Also the tables need to be tended to more often and dirty dishes cleared away and tables wiped down. The area with the kids books takes up alot of space and when I was there not one kid was occupying the space. If kids were using this space it would have been even louder in there. The walls of windows definitely need some shades to block the sun. It's like you are sitting in a terrarium and yousweat to death. I did notice some people who were in the sunny areas were waiting for tables to clear and then they would move to one of those shady spots. Nice concept, nice furnishings. I'll come check it out again after they have been...
Read moreI love Book Bar! I live in Indiana and have made my way there at least once a week to grab a coffee. I love the Besto Pesto sandwich which has quickly become one of my favorite sandwich's to eat! The iced Mocha is so yummy that last week I managed to drink 3 of them while I was there ( I was definitely a little wired that night, but so worth it) The owners and staff are a delight and everyone is happy to help recommend books! I love the atmosphere! During the work week, it is a spot to get work done, read a little or just stop in for conversation and a coffee. It is cozy and not overcrowed with too many seats. A welcome concept since the trend seems to be to pack everyone in on top of each other. I appreciate the kids corner because there is value in giving a child a space to grow into a love of reading. I highly recommend checking them out and trying the Besto Pesto, the jumbo pretzel, and grabbing a great new book...
