Monroe's Original Hot Dog — Restaurant in Monroe

I'm a devoted Vince's fan. I'm not from Monroe but I found Vince's by chance about 10 years ago and immediately got hooked. I had no idea there was another iconic chilli dog stand in Monroe when someone told me about Monroe's Original today. So, just to get to the heart of the matter, I still like Vince's chilli just a little better, but comparing the two restaurants is a little more complicated. Monroe's chilli dog scene is unique. The chilli is chunkier, tangier, more tomatoey and a little sweeter than Detroit style hot dog chilli. I like it a lot. It's different. Monroe chilli dogs come with more chilli than they would in most other places. Both Vince's and Monroe's Original are in this style and I think they're both great. The chilli at Monroe's Original is a little sweeter. That's the only thing about it that I like less than Vince's. Everything else about Monroe's Original I actually like the same or better. The settings for both places is excellent - different and cool, each in their own way. The service in both places has always been great. Root beer - tie in my opinion. I think the temperature of the food and the underlying hot dog were a little better at Monroe's Original. Vince's had always been less than piping hot, which is okay, but not as good as hotter would be. Vince's hot dog seemed very small the last time I was there. I don't know if they changed it, but I feel like they did. They're both great and I see no reason to choose between them, except that I can only eat so many hot dogs in one day, so I'm going to have to alternate from now on. I wish both places would serve a slightly larger hot dog and bring the sweetness down a couple of notches, but then they would be messing with tradition, and that's a bad plan. I'm a fan, from Ann Arbor, who will keep coming back to Monroe's Original whenever the opportunity...

Best Dogs n Homemade chili sauce around and that includes all of downriver n inner city Detroit as well.

My parents have been customers since at least 1964 when they were still only dating and I but a twinkle in their eyes.

Anyway my younger bro n I and family are now life long time loyal customers as well so the management is obviously doin it right right down to the homemade root beer yum lol, getting hungry just texting it lol and bummer we live so far away or we would all definitely be there more often. Its a double thumbs up.

Yes from me, I give the top rating and will confidently recommend to any and all who appreciate a good ol American chili Dog and a frosty mug of homemade root beer if this sounds yummy to you too this is your place, Ya won't regret stopping in for a cozy break in ur day plus ya get to enjoy the fresh air and var hops arecalways the best, bery polite and professional imo. Wish yous all had door dash too then we'd order in maybe someday.

Need more quaint comfy mom n pop stops like this imo can't have too many great food for any occasion no doubt the best will want to do as I do and take a half of full gallon of beer and a dozen dogs loaded to go too I freeze mine and reheat later ( wayyy better than white castle...

So last week when I stopped in and grabbed lunch they gave me a flyer that said "free chili dogs,free root beer, and free prizes like TSHIRTS it says for Nov 3rd & 4th." So I stopped in today and presented the flyer and so I place my order, and she has me pick out of a deck of cards and I won a free pint of chili, so she goes off to prepare my food, and I go knock on the door and ask her if I could trade the chili in for a T-shirt, and the guy behind the counter says very rudely, NO and didn't even bother to turn around to look at me!! Giving me the shirt instead of the chili would of been good business, for many reasons. But most importantly he was very rude to a paying customer.Not too mention there was tons of shirts, and the flyer was very misleading. I will not return next year as a customer I will make the drive and go to...
