. My husband and I heard good things about Iguana Joe's, so we tried it last Monday on our way home from a doctor's appointment. For starters, our service was bad. They were pretty empty so it's not like our section or the kitchen were slammed. I don't remember exactly what time we arrived, but I do think it was an odd hour, in between the lunch and dinner rushes. That may have had something to do with it.
The biggest issue was the food. To be fair, this was my very first time to go there. I typically start out a restaurant with basic menu items like flautas or tacos al carbon. I like to judge a restaurant based on those items, then if I branch out to something fancy like a shrimp taco and get burned, well, that's on me. Sort of, a little bit.
I broke my own rule. On my first visit I ordered the Baja tacos with grilled shrimp, sauce on the side. Let me tell you, when I say I had three bait shrimp tacos, I'm not kidding. These were the tiniest shrimp I've ever seen. The shrimp were definitely frozen, thawed, then overcooked. I've heard of rubbery shrimp, like on Bar Rescue, Hell's Kitchen, etc, but I've never actually experienced rubbery shrimp before Iguana Joe's. I tried the sauces that came with the tacos, and I'm glad they were on the side. But that's a personal taste issue; I'm really not a sauce person to begin with. So the sauce is more of a me issue than an Iguana Joe's issue.
Because I broke my own rule and we came at a weird time I considered giving Iguana Joe's three stars, but if the restaurant is open straight through from lunch to dinner they should have good service during those hours. And every item on the menu should be edible. So I'm giving...
Read moreI had went with my neice yesterday. We had ordered a few items off the menu. Such as the fried avocado and the chimichungas and a regular beef and bean burrito, we also had a few other things but i can't quite remember. Everything we had ordered was covered in cheese. We couldn't even enjoy the meals because of all the cheese. The fried avocado had ninety percent cheese and no avocado, the rest of the inside was just the fried part. The burrito my neice had was covered in cheese as well. When she started to pick the cheese off it came off as a whole sheet of cheese. The chimichungas was just cheese and little meat. We also had ordered a rice but i don't remember which kind and instead of telling us they replaced it with their yellow rice which was also disgusting. Our drinks were also not the best. My neice had a pink lemonade which was just straight syrup water and ice. I had a sprite but it was just carbonated water. We asked to have everything sent back since we didn't eat it and asked for our bill so we could leave. We almost had to pay $50+ for food and drinks we didn't eat but luckily there's was this other really nice server who said we only had to pay for the drinks. If I could rate zero stars I would !! Never again will I be visiting...
Read moreAt first sight this restaurant seemed pretty legit. It even had a little hat at the front door. It was all fun until it was time for us to get our food served. While our food was being handed, I realized that the limes they had given us, were all dark and looked really rotten. I thought nothing much of it, so I politely asked the waiter for some new limes. Now this was already way out of my comfort zone specially because I don't like correcting people, so the limes were so dark even I stood up for this. Anyway, the moment I asked the waiter gave me a concerned look. A minutes seconds later she came back but this time with the main manager, who's name was gorge. As he was walking up to me I thought he would be apologizing and would probably bring me better limes, but no. Instead of doing that he went on and told me that I was insulting him and his restaurant. I want to put my side of the story out there just to let ya'll know the risk you might face when trying to correct an employee here. I will never be wasting more than $175 in a...
