Original Clyde's Hot Chicken — Restaurant in Montclair

If you are going to take the time to read my review please be kind enough to hit like 10/08/2019 We live in the neighborhood & while driving by, my family & I noticed a sign on the building that says Clyde's Hot Chicken Now Open. Well, we decided to go on ahead & stop by to check them out & see what all they had to offer. Obviously chicken! But they have options. And these were options that my family & I liked. Being that they've just opened, it wasn't very busy but there were customers there. The establishment was very nice & clean. We ordered our meals, which are reasonably priced. The soda machine want working just yet but they have sodas & cups with ice of you choose. The menu is very easy to read & understand & if it's your 1st time, like it was ours, the lovely staff can explain your options. They offer chicken sandwiches Clyde's Original, Tge Skinny Chick & The Early Bird, wings & strips. Chicken comes with pickles so if you don't like them let them know when you order. They have sides as well southern slaw, mac salad, crinkle fries & waffles. The best part of the optionsare the heart levels. They offer naked, original, hot as cluck & 1930. My family & I went for 1930 because we love hot (spicy) food. Since it was our 1st time eating from this establishment the nice people there offered us a tasting but we didn't takethem up on it because we knew that we can handle it. We placed our order & decided to dine in to really enjoy the full fresh flavor. Food came out fast! We ate everything! We loved everything! My hubby wasn't able to go with us but we made sure to take an order to go for him cause he couldn't miss out on this deliciousness! The environment & ambiance was just great! Staff great! Been coming here for about a year now. Staff has always been helpful and courteous. Until today have always loved coming here. We ordered a family pack as we have maybe a dozen or so times. Employee asked which heat level we would like and asked for the strips to be one heat level and the sandwiches to be another. She immediately responded with we can only we can make opposite pairs the same heat level. What's the point of asking if the employees can't customize the order. I mentioned to here that we have ordered this way several times and she immediately said "No"..I asked which she meant by answering "no" like she was insinuating I was lying. She gave her store pre programmed "store policy" response and basically said she would not let us order the way we were are used too. What is the difference? I can order 4 different combos and make them all different variations but if I order the family pack we only get the way store policy is set. It's not as if the chicken is cooked differently, it's all the same and the seasonings are added to the end product. We didnt ask for 4 different things, we just asked the sandwiches be one flavor and the strips be another. I don't understand what the difficulty is?? I don't think the store will go broke having to season one more chicken, if you guy are that hard up for cash, put a customization fee and be done with it..at least you will keep customers happy and not turn them away with bad experiences I would suggest you guys invest in self serve kiosks, that way at least your machines would have an excuse for acting like a robots. I tried this place rushing on my lunch break and I will just like to tell you it was thee most horrible chicken sandwich I have ever tasted the chicken was completely hard had no taste whatsoever it was really nasty & bland like they used 0 sodium and just relied on the hot seasoning that they coat the chicken in to be the outstanding flavor for the whole sandwich when you bit deep down into the meat it was just pure bland unsalted chicken I wasted my 10 for the one sandwich I through it away would never go back

But what I will say the food was extremely fresh extremely clean and extremely hot from just freshly been cooked so I did appreciate that but they really need help with seasoning the chicken maybe trying an overwhelming powerful overnight marinade I would know I’m a chef I make really good chicken sandwiches from scratch that everybody dies for

But back to the review I don’t know if they follow a recipe or they season to hand but it was completely disgusting it’s like taking boneless skinless chicken breast rinsing it and water and just throwing it in oil just like that and sprinkling hot powder on top it was HORRIBLE some who have bland palates might like the place but for me I love food love to eat GOOD food and this places was...
