Finally ! We have been searching for a long time to find the original owner of Asahi, and Sushi One Spot! So happy to have his new location finally open! I have followed Howard restaurants since Riverside days, from Van Buren to Rancho.. always high quality sashimi!
Finally feel more safe in ordering food, I havenât ordered any sashimi or rolls since last year. Keep note that the place is only by order for now, until the pandemic situation clears up! So there currently is no AYCE. They do look like they have apple and android pay, for ease of payment, and they do all wear mask. It feels safe to order. I think I even saw a box of facemasks, possibly for people that may have forgotten theirs.
I phoned in a togo order, and the gentleman that was on the phone made sure to help me get my order down. Not only was he patient, (w my daughters allergy questions) but also was very knowledgeable of what was in each special roll.
Food I ended up getting the special that they currently have, the 3 special rolls, get one free. The most thoughtful thing, was that because I asked about the whole egg allergy thing, they put the eel sauce and spicy Mayo on the side, instead of putting it directly on the roll. I could be wrong and it is just something they do for togo, but at least that is what I would like to believe.
Angry Eel- it was great that they were able to take out the usual imitation crab meat (the Mayo contains egg) and replace it with just the imitation crab stick. Asashi Roll- the classic! Always so good with its fresh salmon and tuna! Volcano - great for those who donât prefer to eat any raw fish, baked salmon goodness Nagoya - better yet, if you donât want too cooked or raw salmon, this one was seared salmon !
It was also so interesting to know that they have a beyond meat roll. Good to also have that in mind, have no idea how this will taste.
This place was huge! I believe it used to be a Acapulco. Like his other locations, of course there is a long sushi bar and TVs in the establishment.
The best thing is that me and my family does not need to drive 30 min to the rancho location like we used to, this is so much closer! Canât wait to come back soon !...
Read moreOverall I have more good things than bad things to say about these restaurant. I am going to get the bad stuff out of the way but please stick with me until the end to get a full assessment of this place.
CONS: some pieces of fish were ridiculously fishy borderline inedible. I noticed this specifically with the fried Oyster and the sea scallop. The eel and yellowtail were not quite as bad but was definitely more on the fishy side.
PROS: if I could I would give this location a 3.5 star rating but I rounded it up for the reasons listed below Not all the menu items were bad. We enjoyed most of the salmon options. The jen jen, spider crab, and spicy scallop were delicious. Also. I loved the potato shrimp it is the first time I've seen that menu item and it came out piping hot and it was a nice contrast in flavor to all the sush The fish to rice ratio is fantastic. Big strips on fish on small balls of rice and I rarely see such a great ratio at an ayce restaurant Service is TOP NOTCH the people there are so nice, efficient, and do an excellent job explaining how their AYCE works. There is no time limit and they offer more than 3 rounds if you are able to eat that much $1 sake and beer
Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place for the best sushi BUT for a fun time catching up and hanging out with friends I would be down...
Read moreWe USED TO love this place as much as going there every week! Then we're very busy so we haven't been there till last week after 3 months....big changes! The food was still good but the service was bad! First Jenny wanted to seat us in the back but we asked for the table in the middle of the room (we actually had 'our' spot) and she quickly had an attitude. Then I asked for Esther & other servers, she said they're long gone! After ordering, she passed by to check on us twice. We ordered more drinks from Miran (the only server who smiled & was nice) and still had a couple pieces of sushi left. Here comes Jenny, bring us the bill without being asked! We're still eating & drinking and I was thinking about ordering more! I looked around and saw Jenny was eating at the table not far behind us. Well, I was a server for over 20 years so I gave her the benefit of the doubt. She might be going on a break, but every place we went they always informed us before leaving the bill! We miss all the old crews. A couple of sushi men waved to us as they recognized. We usually brought a little something for all the workers almost every time we went there especially Hollidays. It was a good fun dinning time. We still left a decent tip (over 20%) and decided to give it another try, maybe on the weekend, in the hope of getting a...
