Very cute cafe for a light breakfast or a nice coffee date. Food was very flavorful. My friends and I really enjoyed the food and was very fulfilling. Proportions are reasonable. The croissant looks small but it isn’t. Employees are Turkish and they were all sweet people I enjoyed my time here. Bon appetite.
Update: today I decided to head on over to what I thought was really good place for a brunch with a new group of friends. You can read my prior review. The food was good last time. Today I got to the place a lot of things has changed when ordering my croissant with mozzarella and tomato’s the no longer serve the diced potatoes. The put salad with it… in addition to that the lady told me she can sub the salad with wedged potato’s which is what I opted for and didn’t Inform there will be an extra cost as the potatoes or side used to come with the croissant. Anyways the croissant was $15 and the change from salad to potato extra two bucks. Further upon that. They seemed to have left the croissant on the waiting table for too long so the oil and dressing in the sandwich had seeped through and made it all mushy. Then my friend ordered the shakshuka which is a large plate and is usually eaten with bread had only three slices. We finish the slices small slices and ask for extra bread. We had also ordered drinks and the waitress brought three out of the four drinks over to the table forgetting there is another fourth drink. We have been sitting there for 30 min already. She spent another 15 min till she realized she forgot to get my drink. She took forever to check up on us if we needed anything we had to get up and find her. The place was not packed what so ever. I got the drink we finished eating and we ask for the bill and she told us then that there were extra charges for the potato as well as the bread… they charged us $3 for three slices of bread!!!! What !! I can get a whole semolina load for that price. This place really has skewed their menu over and their quality of food. Waitress was not attentive what so ever. Food mediocre and service as well as pricing for the food was horrible. I am not one to complain per price but really three slices of small bread kicked me over the edge for three dollars. It’s quite sad and embarrassing. I was very bothered by everything. We asked the waitress to take the bread back however we were still charged the three dollars. Owners need to go back to the old menu as it had more flavor and relax on bread pricing. It’s really unbelievable for bread.don’t get me started on the extremely dry chicken bbq it was like eating sand. This review is long enough. Get the place together. Go back to how it was as well as better servers. Have...
Read moreI thought long about writing this review because the last thing I want to do is cause unnecessary negativity. However, I feel it’s important to speak up when you’ve been treated poorly by a business you once supported.
Today, I visited Sweet Kitchen kiosk in Willowbrook Mall, excited to try one of their waters and a spinach pie. I’ve been a loyal customer for years and have always enjoyed my experiences—until today. When I approached the counter, I was shocked by how differently I was treated compared to the two women who ordered before me. The cashier (who may be the owner) was warm and pleasant to them, but when it came time to take my order, he became noticeably rude and dismissive.
As someone who works in customer service, I always go out of my way to be kind and respectful when I’m on the other side of the counter. I even made sure to tip. Sadly, that kindness was not returned. After I ordered the spinach pie, he grabbed it without a word and shoved it toward me, as if he couldn’t get me out of his sight fast enough. His expression made me feel completely disrespected. I stood there, stunned, wondering what I had done to deserve such treatment. Was it because I’m Black?
To make matters worse, I noticed the pie wasn’t heated as it usually is. I politely asked if it could be warmed, saying “please” and “thank you,” only to be met with even more attitude. When he handed it back, it was again shoved in my face without a word.
As someone who has lived in this area for years and supported this kiosk for just as long, it’s incredibly disappointing to experience such blatant disrespect. Sadly, today was my last visit. I will not spend another dollar at Sweet...
Read moreEverything that needs to be said about this lovely Montclair cafe has already been said by other reviewers. The ambiance is just as cozy and homey as others have suggested, and the service (both at the tables and counters) is friendly to boot.
What I'd like to add to the heaps of praise of this sweet cafe is my personal ode to the pistachio croissant. Maybe it's the recent vitality of the famed Dubai chocolate, but I've noticed this green nut making a more prominent appearance in pastry shops (to note: Sweet Kitchen proffers their own version of the Dubai dessert). I was tempted by two of them behind this cafe's counters - the gluten-free pistachio cookie and the pistachio croissant.
For a cookie free of gluten, this one's got plenty of crunch and texture. There's a ton of almondy essence (maybe it's made with almond flour?) that beautifully complements the flavor of the ground pistachios. But the croissant was what took my breath away. When we broke into it, we audibly gasped at the gooey dribble of pistachio filling that revealed itself. It's a wonderful and tasty surprise that, along with the crunchy pistachio topping, makes for an incredible take on the humble croissant.
There are just enough tables to provide a low hum of vibrancy without making things too loud. The corner of self-service materials (eating utensils, water cups, and bins for used glassware) also makes this a great space for hanging out to work or catch up with friends without waiting...
