Food: Tasty, flavor and presentation are mediocre for some, lacking for others. The little egg waffle is very good
Beverage: The house milk tea is good. Close enough to Hong Kong style, strong
Portions: Normal average portions same size as most restaurants
Price: A bit on the high side
Service: Fast service and fast food preparation
Atmosphere: High Kong vibes and feel. A bit busy with much decorations and neon lights
It's my first time here since they opened. Came with my families and I believe we are all on the same page on the food, flavors and taste. We ordered 7 dishes, out of the 7, only 2 are tasty, the rest are just mediocre and one in particular is just not good, not recommended. The honey pork chop. Not enough honey, soggy, not tasty enough. Fry chicken wing, a simple dish is not flavorful enough. The baje chicken noodle with the white sauce is very good, creamy and tasty. Milk tea is good, choose to the Hong Kong style. Kind of strong though. The little egg waffle is one of the best i have ever taste, my niece also agrees
Service are fast, Asian style, meaning not much chatting and only take your orders. They are pretty fast as the waiters/waitress are equipped with tablets to take orders. Dishes are prepared and ready within 10 minutes. That pretty fast.
Atmosphere as I mentioned is decorated to looks like or feels like a Hong Kong vibe with many different pictures of places in Hong Kong, signs, vehicles and buildings. You do get the feel of being in Hong Kong, and that's the theme. Some people like this view and feel, but some thinks it a bit busy. It does not feel upscale, but a cafe if Hong Kong is not meant for that purpose.
All and all. It's worth trying and feel the vibe, some things are worth ordering and some are better elsewhere. You...
Read moreThis place is great, our favorite HK Cafe location. Parking is easy in the underground structure. Decor is beautiful and perfectly themed. Service is fine, as best as you can expect from this place. They’ll definitely get you what you need without any attitude.
We’ve been here plenty of times and there’s always a lot to take home.
The best way I can explain it is it’s an excellent place when you want good “junk” food. Not to say the food is bad, it’s something to satisfy your cravings and Greta portions. It’s one of those places that brings you back and gives you lots of food, may not be the best quality, but you get your moneys worth. You will not leave feeling like you’re still hungry.
I would say the one negative is that sometimes food comes out very spread apart. For example we got our fried rice last, some time after we had received our previous dish.
Food wise, see the pictures themselves, portions are great. I think this places is done family style, lots of food the share Love the salted pepper squid, the portions are perfect to share as most of their dishes are here.
We normally like the grilled pork chop plate, this time we opted to try the fried pork chop, and it didn’t miss. Tastes great, but I’ll stick to the grilled version as there are a lot of fried dishes in their offerings
Honey walnut shrimp is good, could probably use a bit more of the mayonnaise for that creamy texture, but the flavors are good
I really enjoyed the salted fish and chicken fried rice. Not overly salty and a good balance.
I believe the lemon tea is refillable
This is our go to when we can’t think of places to eat and just want something that can satisfy...
Read moreThere’s been a lot of buzz lately about the newly opened Hong Kong Cafe (Cha Chaan Teng) in Monterey Park, so naturally, we decided to check it out after seeing the long lines on Yelp and YouTube. Unfortunately, our experience left much to be desired.
Let’s start with the decor—it’s authentically Hong Kong, complete with neon lights that give it a retro vibe. If you're after the aesthetics, it delivers. However, we were there for the food, and that’s where things fell short. Unlike other cafes in the SGV like Tam’s, Alice, Delicious Food Corner, and HK Macau Bistro, this cafe doesn’t serve breakfast, offering only lunch and dinner. The prices are also noticeably higher than what you’d expect from other spots in the area.
As for the food, it was mediocre at best. The curry flavor in the beef brisket dish was decent, but the pieces of brisket were so large that they were difficult to eat. In a cafe like this, attention to detail is key, and unfortunately, it was lacking here. The fried noodles with egg and shrimp were disappointing—the shrimp were small, and the texture wasn’t what we’ve come to expect from similar dishes at other cafes.
One bright spot was the egg waffle, which was crunchy and tasty. However, the slow service overshadowed even that positive note. We had to wait for our water until the first dish arrived, which is never a good sign.
Overall, while the ambiance is nostalgic, the food and service need improvement. It’s unfortunate because this cafe replaced the much-loved Tasty Garden, but it doesn’t quite live up...
