The Tides Waterfront Kitchen is just okay. We ordered the Monterey clam chowder which was a good sized bowl of very respectable clam chowder with a pleasant amount of vegetables and clams.
We also had the mussels small plate which oddly had a bunch of vegetables in the sauce. The vegetables were good, but the sauce was pretty salty and not what I’m used to for steamed mussels. The mussels portion was pretty reasonable for the price. We had asked for extra bread with the sauce that we didn’t get, which was a letdown.
We wound up receiving an order of the stuffed mushrooms that we didn’t order—presumably mixed up with our extra bread. They were fine, but it’s five mushrooms so the price is pretty crazy for what you get.
Our entree was the treasures of the sea, a combination of most of their standard entrees. This was easily the most disappointing part of dinner. There were 3 types of fish, but the cuts for the sea bass and swordfish were definitely abnormal. The sea bass seemed to have the Parmesan sauce on it but that was pretty nondescript. The fish were not great quality or preparation, which is disappointing. The vegetables and rice were pretty plain too.
They offer room service which was very convenient. They are not clear about fees for room service. I expect fees for services, but they need to be clear what those fees will be (mine was a $3 fee and a 15% service fee, with room for an additional tip, which makes the fee structure unclear). It was pretty strange that the room service came in to-go containers and certainly takes something away from the...
Read moreI was pleasantly surprised by the fantastic breakfast we had at the Tides Waterfront. We stayed at the Monterey Tides Hotel during spring break. I rarely eat at the hotel restaurant because in general hotel restaurants are terrible. Not this one. They had a wide variety of offerings for meat lovers, vegetarians and the pickiest of eaters... kids. The restaurant was built like Windows on the world. Each row of tables were placed higher than the one in front of it. Design intended for all patrons to see the lovely view of the bay and that it was. The wait staff was amazing. I was having a particularly hard morning with my 10-year-old son who was over tired from our trip. He only wanted chocolate chip silver dollar pancakes for breakfast. On the kids menu, they had a character shaped Pancake, plain, no chips. He was upset and said he didn't want anything. I ordered it anyway. I also ordered the eggs bene for me, cooked, well-done and sauce on the side. Bacon done well and coffee. I ordered milk for my son. When the order came out to our surprise the waiter convinced the chef to make 5 of the best ever chocolate chip silver dollar pancakes This was the best breakfast of our trio and probably the best...
Read moreThis restaurant has so much potential due to its location and the design of the place, but it fell short miserably.
Firstly, the drinks were watered down and my mai tai tasted like a tequila sunrise from a cheap bar.
The receptionist was also the bartender, and she was very rude to my date and me. More about her later…
The plates were expensive for what was received. I ordered the shrimp scampi, and what I received was 6 shrimps in a bowl of watery butter, the rice was over cooked, and the vegetables were cold and bland.
The windows looking out on the water were dirty. The menus were photo copies, which is understandable because of covid, but they gave us used, stained, wrinkled ones, which defeated the purpose of printing single-use menus.
Back to the receptionist, Stephanie. She completely EMBARRASSED us. We were walking out of the restaurant, when she ran out frantically and yelled, “DID YOU PAY?” She said this in front of other customers, and it was the most humiliating thing I’ve ever experienced in my life. We tried to speak to management, James, but he was unavailable. No one took our name and number and no one was able to help us file a formal complaint.
Do...
