Stayed here for an FRC tournament with 30 high schoolers.
Here’s what I liked: spacious room with an extra out at the window where we stored suitcases (2 suitcase stands!) out of the way yet easily accessible extra padded cubes for additional seating beyond the desk chair night stand had a large pull-out shelf with built-in outlets that was perfect for storing tech as it charged pull-out shelving in the bathroom plus an extra ledge under the mirror for placing toiletries. Plenty of space for 4 people extra counter space behind door for the coffee maker and mini-fridge storage. large spacious dining room large conversation area off the lobby was a great space to gather before and after meals walking distance to the beach tucked away by itself between two roads and an attractive pond. a walking path that heads along the bluff runs right past the hotel. Access to the trail doesn’t require crossing roads within 1/2 mile from tasty restaurants - fast food and fine dining. free toothbrush and travel toothpaste! I was expecting to have to pay but this was an unexpected and much appreciated perk.
Things I would want to know about or change: Beds were pretty firm. I was okay for 2 nights but my hip was aching during night 3 again with the hooks in the bathroom - 4 people, 3 hooks. The math does not work. they won’t send housekeeping to your room unless you request it at check-in. This wouldn’t be as big of an annoyance if I had been checking into this room personally. However, I was part of a larger group and checking in was handled by the booster club president. I doubt they asked her about housekeeping for each of the 20-ish rooms we needed. friendliness and approachability of staff was hit and miss. no coat hooks - this would be nice for beach towels or wet coats when it’s rainy breakfast buffet room was very small...
Read moreFor reference I am a Diamond member of Hilton which means I stay allot at various Hilton properties. This Hampton was so bad I made a last minute reservation at a completely different company two hours after check in and just took the room cost as a loss leaving the room empty for the entire night. Yuk!
The exterior and location of the hotel was sufficient. The staff were friendly enough. Very disappointed in the interior of the hotel!!! The hotel lobby and hall ways had a musty dingy oder throughout. Like a dirty mop with no ventilation. The rooms had no carpet just fabric stretched over concrete. The water pressure in the sink was so low it was not hygienic. There was no microwave in the rooms only one in the lobby to share with the entire hotel which is outrageous really. The beds are spring loaded mattresses not comfortable at all. The tiny heater barely working was located in the bay window surrounded by 3 windows allowing the heat and ac to escape not a smart design. The TV channels were limited satellite tv with no specialty channels like sports or Disney. If I could give this Hampton a 0 stars I would have. I cannot believe that the Hampton brand tolerates this hotel using its name since I believe it damages the reputation of Hilton and Hampton. This hotel is 200 per night hotel is worth maybe 60 per night until they fix all the above. I won’t attempt staying there again before 5-10 years have passed to see if anything changes. I believe they get away with charging this high price because they have little to no competition in the area. It’s a shame really that the Monterey city government charges so much taxes to force down the quality of its hotels. This hotel owner should visit a hotel in the Bay Area to get ideas of what...
Read moreWe were really looking forward to our stay at the Hampton Inn Monterey, but the experience ended up being deeply disappointing. The room we were assigned had a terrible smell — something like vomit that had been unsuccessfully masked with cleaning products. It was strong enough that we immediately felt uncomfortable staying there.||We went to the front desk to request a different room — a simple and reasonable request, especially considering the circumstances. Unfortunately, the staff member on duty, Vincent, was surprisingly argumentative from the start. He told us the only solution would be to check out, claiming the hotel was sold out. This was hard to believe given how empty the parking lot was.||Things got even more bizarre when we stepped a few feet away from the desk to privately discuss our next steps as a family. Vincent interrupted our conversation unprompted and condescendingly called us “sensitive” for not wanting to stay in the smelly room. It was completely inappropriate and made an already frustrating situation worse.||He offered no help with rebooking elsewhere — we had to make alternate arrangements ourselves and ended up at the nearby Embassy Suites, where we were treated professionally and kindly.||This whole experience felt more like dealing with someone who wanted to start a conflict rather than help a guest. We won’t be returning and wouldn’t recommend this hotel based on how we...
