We've been regulars at Phli's for years, always finding it a great burger-and-fries spot but after last night, won't be returning any time soon. First, my husband ordered the mushroom/swiss burger without onions but with tomatoes and lettuce - when the waitress brought it, she immediately realized it had onions so took it back to replace. He ate the replacement burger but knew all they'd done is remove the onions because the taste saturated the sandwich. I normally enjoy the chicken wrap but wanted to try the "Double Decker Turkey Club" as a wrap, which the waitress assured me could be done. When she brought it, she explained that it was the last wrap so it had been made differently (not sure why?!?) Here's a picture of one half - I was able to eat the other by balancing/supporting it with both hands but it was mostly just a bunch of "stuff" piled on a spread out tortilla - certainly not anything like a wrap. When we asked for the ticket, several minutes later she came over with a square (or some other payment device) - I asked again for the bill and she said we'd get that after it was paid, then just told us the total charge. That seemed pretty strange and I was uncomfortable but went ahead and paid - then saw on the printout she gave us after the transaction was completed that we'd been charged $.75 each for the tomato and lettuce, despite the onion mixup. Kind of petty and ridiculous - certainly not good customer service. Overall, a very disappointing experience.

A Montgomery Gem That Never Misses – Phil’s Roadhouse ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I’ve been coming to Phil’s Roadhouse for over 10 years now, and it continues to be one of the most consistent, comforting, and satisfying dining experiences you’ll find in Montgomery—or honestly, anywhere in the area. This place isn’t just a restaurant, it’s a tradition. From the moment you walk in, the laid-back, country-style atmosphere makes you feel right at home. It’s the kind of place where you can truly relax—quiet, cozy, and full of charm. The tables feel like they’ve seen a thousand great conversations and a million satisfied smiles. Now let’s talk about the food—wow. The portions here are beyond generous. You’re always guaranteed to leave with a to-go box, and trust me, you’ll be thankful for the leftovers. The onion rings? They’re absolutely to die for. Perfectly golden, crispy, and flavorful—honestly, they should be famous for them. Every dish is made with heart, and you can taste the difference. Service is another high point. The staff is friendly, attentive, and never overbearing. It’s the kind of place where the servers remember your face and maybe even your usual order if you’ve been a few times. Phil’s Roadhouse sets the standard for what a great hometown restaurant should be. It’s no wonder I’ve kept coming back for over a decade. If you’re in Montgomery and you haven’t been to Phil’s yet, you’re missing out on one of the best-kept secrets in Texas dining.

Atmosphere: Upon entry to the restaurant, it gives off a rustic homestyle vibe. From the outside, the transition to the interior decor is almost fluid with all the wood and metal signs. Moving to the bar area on the right side of the establishment you will see a fair amount of TVs to catch up with latest news/sports and wasn't relatively loud, so you could converse amongst your group. Service: The service was attentive, due to once we were given our menus, the waitress asked if we wanted anything to drink and then went to assist another table in which she then brought our drinks and asked if we wanted any appetizers prior to our meal choice. After our entree selection, she made us aware that she would bring out the salads first, upon receiving our salads, not too long after did we receive our entree. Quality: I ordered the Beef Tips and the portion size was very generous, but on top of that the flavor of the meal was great. I thought I would have issues with the mushrooms but they didn't even bother me, if anything I think it enhanced the meal. The combination between that and the mashed potatoes made it a dish worth getting again in the future. I would highly recommend getting the banana pudding if you have a sweet tooth, so much flavor and hasn't disappointed me whenever I get it.

Let me start by saying tonight we had the choice between trying two new (to us) restaurants in Montgomery area. We’ve eaten at most restaurants in and around the area and had yet to try Phil’s. We were trying to decide between Phil’s and another restaurant on 105. After reading all of the reviews online, it seemed like Phil’s was an excellent choice, or so we thought… All reviews online except a couple that seemed to be Hastily written and people that may be out of touch with service industry standards, and common courtesy appeared to show that this place was one of the best in town. We have been referred by friends and neighbors here as well so this leads further to our dismay. I have only written 2 food reviews in my life up until this point and I’m 30 years old. This one is not good but had to be for the books. Fried pickles were cold in the middle. Although great flavor in the breading. Not bad just puzzling as to why they would be so cold in the middle. I ordered a ribeye “our finest cut” grilled medium rare (as it should be), the guy I was with ordered the Cajun ribeye medium rare. When our food came to the table we indicated to the waitress that the steaks seemed to be switched up but we were assured that the steaks were correct based on the sides that came with our orders. The waitress left and we had a few bites and realized that our steaks were not only very tough but they were in fact Switched up like we thought. We tried to get the waitress’s attention to inform her that the orders were mixed, then decided maybe we can get over it. After eating 1 more bite I decided “you know what I’m paying $30.00 for a steak, I may as well get what I ordered or not pay for it at all.” When the waitress finally came over we informed her that our suspicions were correct and I asked (with a full steak on my plate) if I could please change my order to a burger. I informed her I wasn’t a fan of spicy food which is why when presented with the choice of a ribeye that was the same price either “spicy” or “not spicy” I chose the not spicy one. I was very promptly informed that they would be happy to put a burger on the grill for me but I would still have to pay for the $30.00 steak that I didn’t eat, didn’t order, and didn’t like. I thought to my self that’s kind of crazy so The waitress offered to go get her manager.“ i will go get her real quick” 8 mins later the manager came out. The guy with me also informed and demonstrated to the waitress that the steak was not able to be cut by the serrated steak knife provided by the restaurant. I was offered a free dessert to help appease me. The simple fact that our steaks were mixed up when they hit the table and had been eaten off of should automatically constituted a reorder of the food. Literally any restaurant I’ve ever been in/worked at would have offered/extended that courtesy. I told the manager not to worry about the burger. I would be fine with my sides that came with the steak. She asked if I was sure if I didn’t want a free dessert, for here or Togo, on the house. I declined and conceded my argument as I knew that she was not going to fix the problem at hand. A free dessert does not replace a $30.00 ribeye that was not eaten. After this, it took close to 20 mins to get our bill and close out, all while 2 empty drinks are on the table. When we paid for dinner $127.00 with no comps or discounts $60.00 of which were the 2 steaks we didn’t want. We asked for a box for my sons steak fingers (the best thing that hit the table that night), after waiting another 7-10mins with still no refills, still no box, we got up to ask another waitress if we could get a box. We finally managed to get our hands on one of those bad boys and we’re able to get out of there. I left a full Cajun ribeye on the table at my disgust however it was too spicy for my dogs at home. The guy I was with did bring his inedible ribeye back home so we could give it to the dogs as he received the not spicy after ordering the spicy. I’m running out of...

Horrible Horrible Horrible...first of all I have been here a couple times before. It has been over a year or more since the last time I was there. I had no problems at all with the food or service before. It is a little drive from where I live but I decided to bring my son to Phil's because I thought he would enjoy the food. First of all the service was horrible. We sat and talked and picked at the peanuts before our drink order was taken. I sat and talked up how good the food was to pass the time. our cheesesticks appetizer was ok but I can say the ones you can get at Sonic are better. I ordered the sliced brisket and pork ribs with a side salad and the baked beans. My son the new texas cheese fries appetizer and a well done cheeseburger. First of all again we sat for awhile waiting. At the time it was not very busy at all so I didnt understand at all why it was taking so long. Then I also noticed my salad was not coming out and the waitress asked if I wanted it with my meal or before as she must have walked by and realized she had forgotten to bring it minutes ago. She brings me the salad which was mostly lettuce but im starved so im digging in..As i thought the food came right after, so she had definately forgotten to bring the salad. The baked beans were horrible..tasted like tomato sauce..the texas cheese fries were freezer burned..the brisket was dry and I didnt even try to eat the so called fall of the bone ribs..I couldnt even pull it off the bone with my fingers and the look of it was not so appetizing. I guess ordering a burger well done means burn it to a crisp until it tastse like a dry sponge inside. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE...then when the waitress does come to out table and I ask for the check with no to go boxes..she could see the food was barely even touched. My son did manage to eat his burger complaining to me for bringing him there whole time. Our table was full of food..the salad, ribs, brisket and beans hardly touched..The plate of the terrible freezer burned texas friends were as if nobody touched them NOT once did the waitress question if everything was ok...I have waited table plenty and in that sitation I would have asked if everything was ok since the food was not touched and to go boxes were refused..I did not want to make a seen and by no way want to see as though i just wanted to complain to get a free meal.. 40 meal for a burned cheesebuger and some lettuce. ..all in all horrible customer service.. Terrible food and a wasted trip. I will never ever go back to this place..and i will spread the world to all friends how horrible they are. I see other reviews on here and they must not have gotten the same food or service ...I never wrote reviews before but i felt soo strongly about this one...dont go if you...

First off I want to say. I grew up in Montgomery an we went to Phil's an I always remember it being very good . An the staff being very pleasant an welcoming. I moved away from Montgomery 6 years ago an I haven't been to Phil's since probaby even before then . We were driving threw last night an decided to stop in . We were originally seated an given our menus an then ask to move randomly . The young man just said the girl who seated us was new an put us in the wrong spot . We thought it was odd. But moved. We ordered an waited almost 40 minutes for our food. An I noticed the waitress not really checking on us. An just waiting on pretty everyone but us. It felt very cold an not how I remember Phil's being at all. We got out food an only ate part an decided to leave cause it had been so long an we still had a long drive home. I paid an decided not to leave a tip. I felt bad right after but I also felt like we weren't being treated very well. At that point I had a long day of driving an just wanted to go home. Well as we were walking out to the truck the waitress that seated us chased us out into the parking lot an said " my manger said that the last few times you have been in here you haven't tipped us. An they wanted me to come say something " I couldn't believe that was happening . we haven't been there in at least 6 years !!! So how could have I not tipped them "the last few times". They seemed to have thought we were someone else an I'm assuming that is the reason for the poor service we received. It was just very disappointing . An not how I remember Phil's. I am only writing this so this is hopefully made aware to the owner. There was no possible way we could have been in there 2 or 3 times an not tipped when I haven't even been to Montgomery in at least 5 years . I gave 3 stars because of the good memories I have there as a kid an ik they can do better. up until this time I never remember having an issue when I did live there an eat there more often . Was just...
