Mesquite Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Monticello

We have been here previously on several occasions and it has been fine (if not pricey for Mexican cuisine) but the quality has gone far downhill. I ordered the molcajete and my my husband ordered the Carnitas. He plate came with a minimal amount of food, his with LITERALLY not even three normal size bites of Charro beans and 2 scant taco amounts of carnitas. We asked our server for more beans stating that the portion was clearly undersized. I thought my molcajete bowl was “ok” other than not being able to differentiate one protein from the other (scraps of pork, beef, chicken), the only thing identifiable was the shrimp and chorizo, cactus and single pepper, and a small corn tortilla filled with a scant amount of cheese, HOWEVER as we were leaving I saw another patron receive a molcajete with two small corn cheese quesadillas, and nice pieces of steak, chicken etc. I feel like I wasted A LOT of money on two dishes that could have far exceeded these standards. JUST to ice the cake our server (WHO WAS FANTASTIC) lets us know that that the “extra” beans we asked for, SHE will have to pay for… we compensated her and additional $3 on the tip but the is a terrible practice to charge the servers for anything the customer asks to have removed from a bill. I only wish I had the photos…. Sadly I only take photos...

I eat here several times a week and usually have no issues with to go orders. This time we called it in and 30 minutes later when we went to pick it up the server (Cristian) that answered the phone said that he hadn’t even put in the order yet. I spoke with the manager and all he said was that he was sorry, no offer to comp the meal or even to discount it. I had to wait an additional 33 minutes and they still charged me a $2.00 to go fee. After I had already paid $45.84 the manager did offer to give me a small bean dip but I had just paid for one and had no need for another one. The manager did say he would make it up to me the next time I came in, he didn’t say how but I will let you know if he keeps his word.

UPDATE….. We went back here today and the manager did keep his word… without being asked he provided us with a complimentary large cheese dip. We decided to eat there since there were six of us, the service was excellent and the food was top...

I ordered bbq pork nachos and he had steak tacos. I ordered jalapeños for my nachos and didn’t get them. Asked for them 3 times still no jalapeños. Partner asked and waiter finally brought them when I was about 75% finished with my nachos. They still charged me almost $2 for my jalapeños even with me only eating about 3 jalepenos since my food was almost gone. I didn’t realize the charge until I had already paid. For the long wait I would have expected to not be charged especially since I did not get to enjoy them with my entire meal as I ordered. Also partner ordered charro beans and he got refried instead. Waiter noticed but partner said it was fine, he would eat the refried. Waiter still brought out the charro beans…while once again forgetting my jalapeños. This was when my partner asked waiter for my jalapeños and I finally got them. It is very conveniently located on the square in Monticello and they have a lot of tvs; Braves games were playing in...
