The Cabin Restaurant — Restaurant in Montrose

A deliciousl find. When I am on the road, I look for down home places--places run by local people who serve actual food that is cooked on the premises. Shanty II is such a place. Housed in a rather funky old building on the main highway in to Montrose, the exterior might not encourage you to stop. But do stop. Inside, the little place is shining clean, with the smiling owner cooking just behind the counter separating the chairs and tables from the kitchen. From that crowded space, he turns out excellent breakfasts, with fluffy biscuits, fresh eggs, golden hash browns and one of the better country fried steaks around. For lunch, the burgers and sweet potato fries are excellent. Lunch specials like prime rib or tuna melts are always good. The grilled chicken sandwich is nothing like those weirdly shaped extruded chicken things at the fast food places--Shanty II grills a real chicken breast, probably marinated, since it is tasty and not dry. They also have espresso drinks and ice cream, nice options. Service is quick and friendly, prices are modest. You may have to wait for a table at the busy breakfast and lunch hours, but it is...

My mother took me to lunch at your establishment.  The food was good. My mother and I were the only people in the resturant eating as it was about 2 pm.  The ladies working decided this was the perfect time to hold a conversation from one end of the resturant to the other end.   They were speaking at the top of their lungs, literally yelling.  My mother and I could NOT hear each other speaking due to these 2 ladies yelling. We told them they were being rude so they yelled across the resturant louder yet and making fun of us and laughing.   Then they pulled the young lady from the  kitchen to come see us and laugh.   We have NEVER EVER been so DISRESPECTED in an establishment!!!    The ladies also need to realize white people speak Spanish also!! My mom told them we will not ever be back even though your food is good!   They laughed and said " ok, have a good day."  There was NO apology and No remorse for being SO RUDE! I ordered the menudo today. Was that a mistake! Way over cooked! To the point it was slime I sent it back and showed the waiter how it smashed into slime. Then I found a hair in my food. I received the bill the menudo was still on the bill I asked why when I did not eat it. I was told because I ordered it! That was the worst menudo I have ever had anywhere! I hate to leave such a nasty review but someone has to say something. We had the rest of our meal and my tea was empty half way through and never did I receive a refill. If she had removed it from my bill then I probably would not had done this but after the way I was treated about...
