So my first time to Savannah's back in January was a wonderful experience. Food was fantastic, service was on point, and the atmosphere was just right. We went this past Saturday evening for a friends birthday it was not anywhere like the first experience. Someone in our party ordered clams and when they arrived, 2 of the clams were not opened up (which means that they clams are no good and should not be served). Upon letting our waitress know, they took them back to the kitchen and returned with 2 more in a bowl with no broth (yes, just 2 clams in a small bowl). We were not able to eat the clams that were returned because they were inedible. It seems like they manually open the clams, microwaved them, and brought them back. For a seafood house at this price point, it was really unacceptable. Another issue was with an order of Shrimp and Grits. The order only had 2 shrimp and we were expecting a little more. All of the pictures we viewed online showed 4 or 5. Also, the grits were really runny and lacked flavor. Again, would have expected a little more from a seafood house. Not all of the food was bad. We ordered oysters and they were fantastic. Also had flat iron steak that was really good. The sides were also very good. Overall from a service perspective, it was average (would have expected a little better at this price point). The main issue we had was that our appetizers were brought to our table and mostly eaten before drinks arrived. Additionally, would have thought that the wait staff would have been more attentive when finding out that we had issues with the clam and shrimp/grits entrees. As for the overall atmosphere, it was very loud in Savannah's for this visit. At times, it was so noisy that we were not able to have conversation (without yelling). It's not that we had a loud table sitting next to us, just the entire room was very noisy. At well over $100 per person, would have expected a little better food and...
Read moreDisappointing. Group of 3. Came in at 6pm on a Saturday. The restaurant wasn't crowded. So, it was surprising how slow the service was. We were seated and sat there for approximately 10 to 15 minutes before we were served water. It was an 10 to 15 minutes bf our server took our drink order and yet, we sat for an uncomfortable amount of time waiting to receive our drinks. The server took appetizer orders for 2 of us (Calamari and crab dip (?)) but for some reason took off for the kitchen before she took the 3rd person's appetizer order. The server did not reappeared until she served the appetizers, at which time the 3rd person ordered oysters. The calamari was nothing special. It had a flour dusting that was over cooked, without much flavor and the dipping sauce was meh. The dip (crab?) was OK but nothing special. Two in the group ate the oysters and said they were very good. For dinner, we ordered the Seared Scallops with verde risotto, the Whole Branzino and, the ribeye (?) with gnocchi. The scallops were cook perfect and the risotto was al dente which I wasn't impressed with. The second person in the group ordered the Whole Branzino. He said that it was OK. The 3rd person ordered ribeye (?) with gnocchi. She said it was very good. I tried her gnocchi however, I did not think that it was very good. The restaurant has a light and airy feel about it and was very clean. There seemed to be several different servers; a water server, a alcohol beverage server, and a food server plus the main server. I watched twice where servers were looking for the correct table to deposit food orders, one of which came to our table to ask if it was our order, which it was not. Overall, the food was average but the prices were outrageous. The very nice atmosphere did not compensate for average tasting food with...
Read moreMy spouse and I are local residents and have enjoyed many wonderful meals at Savannah Oyster.
We had a reservation for 6:30 PM Friday evening and were seated promptly upon arrival. We did notice that the restaurant appeared less crowded than usual.
After being seated, our server quickly brought us water and returned shortly to take our drink order. Unfortunately, this is where our experience took a disappointing turn. It took an unusually long time, over 25 minutes, for our beverages to be served. Following that, there was another 20 minute wait before our server came back to take our appetizer order. We ordered the oysters, which were excellent and the highlight of our meal, hence the three-star review.
For our main courses, I ordered the scallops with garden risotto. Regrettably, my scallops were overcooked, and the risotto was overwhelmingly salty and had such a large amount of parmesan cheese that it was inedible. One of our guests ordered the soft crab sandwich special, and while I didn't taste it myself, its presentation made it look more like something from a casual beach bar. Our guest commented that he dis not enjoy it. There were other issues, but I prefer to keep this concise. In total the meal took over 3 hours which is excessive due to the restaurant not being to full capacity.
We do want to acknowledge that the restaurant itself is beautiful and, despite the very slow service, all the staff members we interacted with were pleasant.
We sincerely hope that Savannah Oyster can address these issues and return to the consistently excellent food and service we have experienced...
