M on High: Where Flavor Meets Family
There are restaurants you go to for a nice meal, and then there are places like M on High—where the moment you walk in, you feel like you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.
I’m not exaggerating when I say I practically live there. It’s my escape, my comfort, my celebration spot, my place to impress guests, and often… just my second home. Whether I’m alone needing a moment of peace or entertaining someone I truly want to impress, M on High never fails to deliver—on every level.
Let’s start with the food: it’s nothing short of phenomenal. Every dish is carefully curated with flavor, texture, and visual appeal. Whether you’re ordering a classic or venturing into one of their seasonal specials, you’ll be met with the kind of quality and creativity you’d expect from a big-city fine dining experience—but with the charm and warmth of a small-town gem. The cocktails are crafted with the same attention to detail—balanced, bold, and beautifully presented.
The ambiance is elegant and inviting, a perfect blend of refined and relaxed. It’s the kind of place where you can dress up for a night out or just come as you are and still feel like you belong. The lighting, décor, music—every element has been thoughtfully designed to create a space that feels elevated yet approachable.
But what truly sets M on High apart—what keeps me coming back again and again—is the people.
From the chefs working behind the scenes to the bartender who remembers your favorite drink, to the incredible waitstaff who somehow manage to make every table feel like the most important one in the room—they are the heart and soul of this place. The waitresses and waiters are extraordinary. Even on their busiest nights, they move with grace, warmth, and a kind of joy that you can feel. It’s not just service—it’s hospitality. Real, genuine, from-the-heart hospitality.
There’s something rare and beautiful about a team that operates like a family and treats you like part of it. They remember your name, your favorite appetizer, your story. They check in, not just with “what can I get you?” but with “how are you doing?” And you know they mean it.
When friends visit from out of town, I don’t even hesitate—I take them to M on High. It’s always the right choice. I know that the atmosphere, the food, and most importantly, the people will leave an impression. It’s not just about impressing them—it’s about sharing something special with them.
So yes, I’m biased. I’m there all the time. But not because it’s convenient or familiar—because it’s exceptional. And every single person who walks through their doors deserves to experience that same magic.
M on High isn’t just a restaurant. It’s an experience. A relationship. A place where good food meets great people, and where every visit feels a little bit like...
Read moreI'd say it was very hit or miss for me the whole time. I don't consider myself a harsh critic by any means, and I'm really not that refined either. But we came here for a nice meal for the first time tonight. After a couple minutes, I honestly asked my husband if it was one of those secretly rude restaurants that people keep pranking others with. All the staff seemed annoyed we were there, starting with the hostess, but we had a reservation and we were on time. Then the guy pouring our water and getting the bread was annoyed too and never said anything when I thanked him each time he refilled our waters. Then our waitress never looked at us a single time, just looked around like she always had somewhere better to be and we were in the way. She got a bit nicer as the meal went on though. All I can think is maybe that's the atmosphere they're going for? That it's high-end and we're just lucky to be there? Idk, it felt like a stuffy New York restaurant, but it's in Moorpark. Maybe it was how they're treated by management? Who knows. The food was also really hit or miss: for the appetizer, we had the Peruvian Ceviche. I really didn't like the ceviche at all, it didn't seem to have much flavor beyond being spicy and wasn't mixed at all, it was like a cold, bad layer dip. But the plantain chips that came with it were PERFECTION. Our cocktails took like 10 minutes to come out, so that wasn't great, but our waitress did apologize for that. I absolutely LOVED my cocktail (a huckleberry something), but my husband (who likes everything) didn't like his (de-plane?). To be honest though, I tasted it and thought it was decent, but mine was definitely better. He got another cocktail later (old fashioned) and I would say that was very average. My husband got the salmon, which came with fingerling potatoes and asparagus, all good 4/5 but the potatoes were the best part. I got the ribeye, which was pretty mediocre. Extremely fatty and for some reason all the sauce was only on one side. But I was glad because it wasn't very good sauce. My slightly smashed potatoes (per the menu) and asparagus were very average. We got 2 desserts to share, also very average. The water glasses and plates were all very cool and nice! The furniture was good too, and we sat outside which I always prefer and it was lovely, a really cool space. Overall, I would say for the amount we paid I would have expected it to be...
Read moreVisited M on High for the first time last night. Have been wanting to try the restaurant for some time as the same company (Command Performance Catering) catered our wedding and did an outstanding job. Got to the restaurant early so we could order drinks at the bar and enjoy them in their nice outside area. It all started well enough (despite the attitude given by the hostess), the drinks were delicious and well crafted. The problem really began when I approached the hostess and before I could even ask her anything she told me (with heaps of attitude) she wouldn't seat me outside before my reservation (it was 15 min before my reservation and I had not asked to sit outside, or asked anything for that matter!). They had two waitresses covering the inside who were completely overwhelmed. It took us ages to have our drink orders taken and even longer to receive our drinks (after our appetizers arrived). My husband loved his braised short ribs so that was a positive but the dessert was terrible (and my husband usually loves dessert). I was about to speak with the manager who was walking around but he got cornered by two women who were equally as upset at the level of service and I decided not to wait around any further. I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt to our waitress who was overworked but despite the restaurant clearing out, she was still not personable or friendly at all and not once asked us how our meal or dessert was. I heard multiple staff use a big table as an excuse for the delay in service but I'm sure they had reservations, as did we and the majority of tables in the restaurant. As my husband and I reflected on our experience we came to the realization that we did not see the staff smile or engage with the customers at all, the whole night. I know covid has not been kind to staffing numbers or morale in general but this experience was a huge disappointment.
Positives -great drinks -great live music -braised short rib was on point
Negatives -unfriendly staff (especially the hostess) -long waits for everything -the restaurant...
