I've been a resident in Lamorida for over 20 years now. Competition is stiff for grocery stores in this area. Three Safeways, Diablo Foods, Lunardi, Trader Joe and Whole Foods. What makes one store fail yet another survive is simply service. I had very low expectations for grocery stores as long as what I'm looking for is available. However, everything changed after I suffered a stroke in 2017. Handicap parking spots, helpful staff, and even how assessible the plastic bags rolls are became important factors. I employ a friend who takes me out grocery shopping twice a week for food, fresh flowers and other life necessities that one cannot order from Amazon. This morning started out great. We arrived Moraga Safeway just when fresh flowers were restocked. In the $5.99 bucket, flowers in an explosion of colors were filled to the rim. My driver and I spent about 20 mins choosing the right bouquet for us to stare at all week. Flowers makes or break a day, especially for someone who stays home all day (me,) and a busy mom of 3(friend.) At the seafood section, there were frozen shrimp for sale at $8.99. Igrabbed one, too. Imagine my shock when veggies for the week and snacks came out to be $150 total at check out. During lunch in a nearby Thai restaurant, we. realized the computer charged me $25.98 for the flowers and $21.98 for the shrimps. Another trip as a disabled, slow person down to the Safeway got me my refund... after 20 mins wait for a parking spot the 2nd time and waiting in line, again, for customer service. So, 2 hours wasted, no apology, no coupons, no offer to lower the prices of the bouquets or shrimps that they labeled wrong. The most important thing for me: No flowers for my desk where I create and read, pretending life is normal after my stroke. Don't shop here. Terrible management and computer system....
Read moreI had a really disappointing experience at the Starbucks inside the Safeway in Moraga. I went in to buy a birthday cup for my mom, and when I asked the barista about it, she immediately made a rude comment saying, "Well, it depends what age she is, because I think it's ugly and I'm 20."
That was completely unnecessary, especially when we told her it was a birthday gift. She acted like it was a joke and made us feel really uncomfortable and judged. Her attitude came off as unprofessional, dismissive, and honestly just mean.
This wasn't just about a cup -- it's about how she made me and my family feel. We were trying to do something thoughtful and left feeling disrespected. I called customer service after because I didn't think that kind of behavior should be ignored.
If you're shopping at this location, I'd avoid dealing with her if you can. Customer service should never make you feel bad for asking a simple question or buying something for someone you love. Personally this Safeway it was just this one lady at Starbucks that made me judged and uncomfortable to...
Read moreSafeway in general usually has pretty bad customer service, so I usually go through the self check out. Why would I want to interact with a cashier who dreads my existence? This time, I was accosted by an employee at the self check out because she thought I had too many groceries for the self check out, even though it isn't 15 items or less, and my cart wasn't even full of groceries. I said I would rather do it my self, and she tried to grab my cart and bring it to the check stand. I insisted and she said "Geez louise," and proceeded to stare at me the entire time I rung up my groceries. I felt very harassed by her, and this isn't the first time I have felt that way by a...
