We visited this place after reading positive reviews and we agree with the good things mentioned. I'm glad we didn't recognize the name of the restaurant because we visited it years ago and had made mental notes that we would never return. This was due to arriving close to closing time and being met rudely at the door by a lady who told us in no uncertain terms that we were not welcomed to come inside and place any type of order.
We've got to do better but once again we arrived about 30 minutes before closing and there were still other customers present. We did not make the connection with our previous experience until we pulled into the parking lot. Therefore we expected to be turned away. But to our pleasant surprise, they welcomed us in and told us to sit wherever we desired. After our waitress took our drink orders, another staff member came over to chit chat with us. We asked her to fix our food in to go containers because we knew we wouldn't be able to eat all of the food and we wanted to sample it while it was freshly cooked and then leave so that we didn't hold them up. She assured us that we didn't need to rush. She said they had many other duties to fulfill before they could leave and we had plenty of time to enjoy our meals. She said they would put our food on regular plates and give us some take out containers just in case we really needed them. She asked us questions about us and when she learned our hometown, she confessed to knowing a lot about our town because she used to visit it regularly. We spoke at length about surrounding towns in which she had spent time although they were over 1.5 hours away. She mentioned some restaurants in Ayden, NC and the collards festival. The three of us admitted how much we love collards and she said that the Captain's Table sold very good collards. Therefore we ordered two orders of them and admit that she was right on point. They were very good! My wife and I ordered fried shrimp, scallops, flounder, and crab cakes. Everything was delicious! At one point the cook came out to see if we were satisfied with the food. I think we exited the door about 5 minutes after closing, but they made a great impression us. We will return when we're in this...
Read moreIn the area for vacation, decided to eat dinner here on a Tuesday evening based on reviews. The blackened Mahi Mahi and lightly fried oysters were excellent. Our waitress was friendly. However, there were two issues. My husband and I each ordered the Two Seafood Combo listed as $17.99 on the menu (see photo). The portions of Mahi Mahi and oysters were generous for the price. For sides, we chose cole slaw - very good, baked potato - very good and sweet potato - not good at all. I thought sweet potato meant a baked sweet potato. When it was brought out, it was more like sweet potato casserole loaded with some sort of bitter coating. The waitress didn’t return to ask how everything was. I didn’t call her to the table because I felt I should have asked if the sweet potato was baked instead of making an assumption. When the waitress finally came to ask how everything was, we had almost finished our meal. The bowl of sweet potato casserole was sitting basically untouched. I told her everything was good except the sweet potato which I expected to be baked. She said it usually was but depending on the cook it could be different. She did ask if I wanted something else. I chose a baked potato and took it in a to go box since I was almost finished eating. The BIG surprise came when we paid. There was an upcharge of $3.00 on each meal because we ordered the blackened Mahi Mahi. This was not stated on the menu (see photo) nor did the waitress mention an upcharge when we ordered. If we had known this, we would have ordered a Mahi Mahi plate and an oyster plate to split up. This would have saved us $6.00. This should be stated on the menu. Since it is not stated, the waitress should tell customers there is an upcharge for certain items. Other than the sweet potato casserole and the unexpected additional $6.00, the meal was excellent. We...
Read moreWant to know if your choice in a restaurant is a good choice? When your waitress asks your booth neighbor if they are having their usual and another waitress is eating a burger from there for their break, typically you have made a good choice. Took a day trip with my family to Atlantic Beach and Morehead City. Some people wanted seafood and others wanted just everyday southern comfort. Well to Google I go to search for a highly rated seafood restaurants. I check a few reviews out of different places and then saw Captain’s Table, over 1000 reviews and 4.5 stars, has to be good. I read the reviews starting newest to oldest. Everyone was singing their praises. So we decide to try it out. Now I will say looks can be deceiving. This is not a fancy restaurant, it looks like a hole in the wall dive, but the food was amazing! Shrimp and Grits were tasty, the burger was juicy and cooked to perfection. The clam strips and country fried steak were just as good as grandma makes. Wouldn’t have been surprised if she was in the kitchen there. And don’t get me started on their Key West Lime Pie! Talk about creamy, light and fluffy. Just delicious! Anyway go check Captain’s Table out the next time you’re in Morehead City, you will not be...
