A deep dive into Casa San Carlo

Hands down, the best food I've eaten. I've travelled and had good things all over. But this was GREAT. The portions were huge. The flavor was overwhelmingly divine. You could taste each ingredient, and all of them as one. The flavors blended beautifully, as if they were meant to be. From the bread (which was heavenly) to the calamari (best calamari I've had), everything was prepared with precision and care. You could taste the Chef's love for cooking with each bite. Easily, anyone with even the weakest of pallets would be able to tell they were eating food prepared for a king. The service was stellar. The waitress wasn't overbearing, but knew when to come back to check on us. The crazy thing is, we were greeted by the owner, and instantly he put us in the private room section. It was almost as if he knew it was our anniversary. Everyone was friendly and very professional. The ambiance made the atmosphere pop. Everything felt as if I walked off the streets of the States, into a small piece of Italy. The music and lighting made for an intimate and fun night. It felt as if we were the only ones there. $$$ The price was fair given the portions you receive. There's enough for lunch the next day. This is definitely recommended for date night 1000%. The only down side is we didn't have room for dessert. However they did bring us one cannoli to celebrate our anniversary and it didn't disappoint.

Visited in 2021 & 2022. Mom and I both had Shrimp alla Carlo (pic) and wow! look at the clams on that dish. Sure shrimp were huge and delicious, but the clams really added a depth of flavor to the entire dish. I also usually don't eat sundried tomatoes, but these were great, guessing homemade. My vegetarian wife got the Eggplant Parmigiana (pic) and loved it. Cut thin and skins removed like it should be. Other vegetarian dish was Pasta Primavera (pic) but sister said was a bit bland. Fried Zucchini appetizer was also winner, but table bread they bring with minced garlic on top was better. My Caesar salad was good n crisp. They brought me some anchovies ($2) to mince in there. Dad got the Chicken Parm. Chicken didn't have much internal flavor, would have been better marinated before breading, etc. Was a bit overcooked which is doubly bad cause it came out a solid ten minutes after the other entrees. If they brought on time, it wouldn't have overcooked! Veal and Chicken Marsala dishes were good, but not the best. Sorry, but Olive Garden's marsala is better. Sister's Grouper w/ Lemon Butter Caper Sauce and Zucchini was really good, tho as the daily special was a bit overpriced at $39.

Never going again. When we first sat down, my plate had a dead fly and 3 others flying around. Apparently it was a known problem that the table we sat in was plagued with flies. When we sat at a different table, my plate instead had food residue covering a fifth of the plate, which I requested to change the plate. Appetizers came relatively the time I expected, the place was packed, which was the reason my girlfriend and I stayed, as we believed the food must be great as there are a lot of patrons. However, 20-30 minutes later, the server came by to tell us that one if the dishes my girlfriend ordered, an eggplant dish, cannot be made because there was no eggplant. She instead decided on baked ziti. We waited for an hour for our food, and two tables around us left and told us that our wait was abnormal because they have eaten there multiple times and it was never that late. When the food came, it was warm, however they did not give my girlfriend the right dish. Since we were starving, we didn't question it, and when the tiramisu came, it was on a chipped plate. The food while good, was not worth the wait as we came in around 6:30 and left around 9. Never coming here again.

Absolutely love this restaurant, Carlos used to be in Raleigh but moved to the beach so we finally got a chance to go and it was so yummy as always. My husband always gets the tortellini Bolognese, he lived in Italy with the Army for 3yrs and he says this is the best authentic northern Italian he's ever had. I love the scallops, he gets the best, biggest sea scallops and the shrimp, sun dried tomatoes and the sauce just makes it all amazing, I love flavor and he's got it down pat. Don't miss out on this gem, we sure miss him in Raleigh!!❤️

Chef Carlo, it was so incredible to see you yesterday and celebrate my Birthday dinner at your restaurant. We miss you so much being in Raleigh, NC. The service and meal was exquisite 👌. And to have you come out of the kitchen say hi and introduce us to your wine from Italy. We felt very appreciated. And of course your attention to details and incredible combination of flavors are second to none. God Bless you my friend and continue to making people happy by your unique talents!
