8/31/2025 We are back at Black Bear Diner in MoVal again and, coincidentally, Elysia is once again our waitress. Service continues to be excellent and staffing seems to be at good levels. We noticed a few updates to the menu. My husband had the pot roast melt, which he loved. I had The Grizz. Serving sizes were huge, and I liked the red potatoes before, but tonight's were the best I've had. Food came up really fast, and Elysia did a great job checking in on us (though we didn't really need anything).

As I said, we liked this location before, but it feels like they've stepped up their game a little and it's even better than I remembered. We love the diversity of the menu and that we were all able to get filling meals with plenty to bring home for lunch tomorrow. The front of the house seemed a bit understaffed with Elysia greeting, seating, taking orders, taking payments, handling refills, serving food, etc. But she was so super friendly and efficient. It was clear that there were some regulars here who she has built relationships with, but she didn't let her interactions with them slow down service to anyone. She made sure our orders were right and checked on us a couple of times (just the right number) to make sure everything tasted good and we didn't need anything. She really made us feel welcome so we could enjoy a relaxing meal.

The restaurant was not packed, but it stayed busy with at least 5 or 6 tables going the entire time we were there. Tables were bussed efficiently and the restaurant was clean. I like the volume level here, too. The music is loud enough that you can make out the songs without a lot of effort, but not so loud as to drown out conversation or make you have to shout.

Overall, it was a great dinner (mine was actually breakfast--they have the best breakfast sausage links and my red potatoes were probably one of the best batches I've had here--kudos to the cook who seemed to be a one man show in the kitchen). Thanks Elysia for making us...

Located at the old Coco's restaurant in Moreno Valley, Black Bear Diner gives out a little family diner vibe as you sit and enjoy the selection of foods that they offer.

My family of 4 including my little niece went on a Sunday morning and it was packed. The wait was around 45 minutes so if you are planning for the restaurant, plan for the wait. It gets relatively longer as the day progresses so stop by early. They also make it easier by sending you a message so you can check your place in line. There are also waiting areas inside and outside the restaurant. Once in, the restaurant has a little diner experience but it can be a little cluster.

The food selection has quite a menu to it. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menu also was quite unique as it is a newspaper with the menu inside.

I ordered the New York Steak from the breakfast side and it was good but nothing to rave about. It is worth it for its price. The plate included hash browns and a bread to it.

The service was a little slow. The server forgot about my nieces' juice and forgot our water. I believe they are understaffed since the restaurant was packed full but not a lot of servers around. I could tell my server was trying his hard to tend to us so I can't fault him on that. It didn't affect the dining experience but it is something to look out for.

Overall, Black Bear Diner offers a different experience in the selection of restaurants Moreno Valley has. It is more energetic with a warming feel. I would say if you never tried Black Bear Diner before then give it a try but account for the wait since it is a...

The food was ok, hot sauce has a mad amount of vinegar in it, all seasoned similarly ): some seasoning wouldn’t hurt but hey it’s black bear diner, you get what you pay for (cheap food) did cure my pregnancy craving though. Food looks flavorful but was not, had to add tons of sauce… I hope their tea has been replaced because they were even talking about how they had issues with it earlier that morning next to where we were sitting? Laughing about it? I didn’t even touch it because I’m pregnant. Very concerning for food safety as they were saying the lid was off with a bunch more activities going on! Gross! Waitress didn’t even check up on us until we were done eating, it took me a while to get her attention to replace the tea… my water was empty whole the time (being pregnant water is very important). I understand it’s a busy job but at 8am on a Monday when barely any customers are there yet? To just sit around talking with coworkers about the mess that happened with the tea infront of someone you JUST served the SAME tea to who has BEEN trying to let you know it’s no good… Very unprofessional. Like I said, you get what you pay for. Cheap food including the service too. I will not be back to this black bear in particular just for the service. Makes me sad because I used to be a waitress too. It’s the little things that impress customers. Like napkins & saying thank you, filling water. Even that would have made this post 5 stars but instead our table was practically ignored for a very unprofessional and disturbing conversation...

Today was my first visit to Black Bear Diner. I went in between 2 - 4 p.m. it was a delightful experience and the Hostess and Waitress was knowledgeable of the diner and the menu. I ordered the Grilled Taco Salad with a side of there homemade Bacon Ranch Dressing, and one single pancake that was made with sweet cream. The pancake came with whipped butter and warm syrup that I didn't even have to ask for because other places you have to ask for warm syrup. I also received a same of the fresh squeezed orange juice they make every morning. That orange juice is better than anything that comes from a can, bottle, carton, or jug and I highly recommend it. The food was good and my salad could feed three people, needless to say, I have leftovers that will be great for dinner. They serve all meals on the menu throughout the day and I even enjoyed reading the Black Bear Gazette while waiting for my meal to arrive. If your not sure if you want to eat here, just go for the fresh squeezed OJ, that alone will bring you back. I am an actual customer, not an employee. Pictures are attached!
