I can still remember many years ago when I was working at San Jose IBM Main Plant (Research Bldg 28) and Erik's opened-up across the street. I had my favorite Deli's from San Francisco, San Mateo, Palo Alto, to Cupertino but now I had one that embodied all that I loved from those distant locations to just a stone's throw away (and a great German Deli was just a block away too). Wide selection of good quality choice meats, cheese, breads with veggie toppings that added just the right amount to complement the protein components - add some mustard and then choose your salad/chips and a cold wet one to go with it. And when you're in the mood, having soup or chilli along side make it a supper meal. And they have stayed consistently good and stuck to their original style and quality across all these years. So, having come to love Erik's over the years I was gratefully surprised when Morgan Hill became home to not one, but TWO Erik's (one next to Peet's on the North end of town; the other a few steps away from a $tarBuckies at the other end of town). My son lives about 3,000 miles away but every couple of years when he journeys home for a visit he makes it a point in the first day or two to go get a "sorry, can't talk, happy mouthful smile" on his face courtesy of lunch at Erik's. Thanks for finding us worthy to warrant our own...
Read moreWhy go to Togo's or Subway when you can get something of much higher quality and much healthier for you, and is actually relatively cheap compared to other sandwich shops? Erik pioneered putting clover sprouts on his sandwiches for the added health benefits when he first started out decades ago, and was a bit bit of a pioneer in general. This commitment is seen and tasted in all of the ingredients they use to this day.
The staff at this location can be kind of hit or miss when it comes to customer service, but Erik's has always been one of my staple go-to's in the bay area for sandwiches. My go-to's are the Pilgrims Progress (Turkey and Avocado on soft 9 Grain Wheat) or the Natural High (a soft pita pocket loaded with multiple melted cheeses and stuffed with their standard veggies plus: avocado, sunflower seeds, mushrooms). They are also one of the few places that carries Ms. Vickies chips, my favorite brand, and especially the Jalapeño flavor.
Their side dishes and soups are also delicious, but the value proposition is not as strong there as it is with...
Read moreFirst impression: Dark, dingy and dirty! What a sad-looking Erik’s! This place needs a major remodel! It looks so outdated and unkempt! The restroom had ants crawling inside the toilet and out! You could tell no one had checked it in a while with the garbage overflowing! The fountain drinks and flatware area was dirty and icky! The fountain machine has an unsightly, crusty white sediment in the drain. The only thing saving this place is that the service was quick! But maybe that’s because it wasn’t busy since there was only one other person eating besides me! First and last time I’ll come here. I rather just drive further out to the other...
