I have both eaten in and ordered take-out through Door Dash here (when in a hangry bind and just needed food). I usually judge a Chinese restaurant on basics like eggrolls and hot & sour soup, and they pass the test here (but they don't approach my favorite places that are too far away from me to visit often, like Lock Chun or Golden House in San Jose, or Chef Liu in Scotts Valley). I would say that the food here is better than your average Chinese restaurant, it's pretty good - but it isn't the best.
The kicker though? Their prices are pretty ridiculous. They are definitely taking advantage of the Morgan Hill affluence by charging prices closer to a premium/fancy Chinese restaurant for what is actually a basic Chinese restaurant total sensory experience. The Lunch Specials alone, which have usually been my bread-and-butter at any place, start at $16 each before tax and tip, which means you are well over $20 in the end, and as a vegetarian I find it frustrating that their veggie and tofu options don't cost less than their meat counterparts. Also, pretty much all of their appetizers, like egg rolls ($11 for 4), or potstickers ($15 for 6!) are way more expensive than is common elsewhere. $25 for a large soup. Through Doordash, these prices are even more inflated, by about 30-35%, before all their additional fees.
Places can charge whatever they want, but I see spending money like voting for practices you support. I don't like being taken advantage of, and even though this place is right across the street from me, I will only continue to visit if I find myself out of other...
Read moreI’ve been a loyal customer of Taste of China for over 25 years, and their Mongolian beef, honey walnut shrimp, and orange chicken have always been my favorites. Unfortunately, the original owner retired, and the restaurant closed four years ago, leaving a hole in my heart for their amazing food.
But the good news is, I recently discovered that Taste of China had reopened a new location just 25 miles from my home! I couldn’t believe it when I saw the familiar menu items listed on Google. When we arrived, I was beyond thrilled to find that the owner was there, and it felt like a reunion.
Not only did we get to enjoy all the incredible dishes I’ve missed for so long, but the owner, ever gracious and kind, treated us with extra dishes on the house, as a token of appreciation for being a loyal customer. The food was just as delicious as I remembered, and it’s clear the passion for great cooking hasn’t faded.
Thank you so much for bringing back these amazing flavors, and I wish you all the best with this new chapter. Welcome back, Taste of China – you've truly...
Read moreSo happy to get in on a Saturday night, it was early so it got busier right when we left. My 97 year old grandma has been going on and on about this place. As soon as we walked in, one of the owners (I'm guessing) greeted her warmly and remembered her so of COURSE that was a big plus. We ordered the Wor won ton, chicken chow fun and beef w/ jalapeños & vegetables. Everything was delicious, fresh and piping hot. A few ladies checked on us frequently to make sure we were good.
The biggest reason I'm making a point to write this review is because of how much it touched my heart that the same lady that greeted us so warmly, walked us out and proceeded to walk my grandma ALL the way down to the end of the mall while I moved the van so it was easier for her to get in. I had to snap a pic b4 I started driving. I mean, how kind was that. Wish I could post it here.
Taste of China I wish you all the success in the world, thank you for going...
