AJ's Family Steakhouse — Restaurant in Morganton

Me and my baby girl took a road trip to pick up a dog lot because she rescues animals dogs particularly but she will not turn down any animal and we drove an hour and a half away to get this dog lot and on our way back home we decided to stop at AJ's Family Steakhouse because I haven't been there in a long time. It was definitely beyond what I expected being that it was Sunday afternoon very busy of course after church so you would think that they would be having some difficulties but absolutely not not a hiccup in the service or the food they both were spectacular. I did not get any pictures unfortunately but it was very beautiful and clean and there was someone if not two people on each station tending to it making sure everything was up to par and clean. So I want to put a special thanks out to AJ's Family Steakhouse for the awesome country style steak and gravy and potatoes and cabbage and corn and those specially cooked green beans also an awesome salad bar and two other separate settings of Italian food and soul food as well. And when I say soul food I mean food that touches your soul it takes you back to when Mama and Grandma was cooking in the kitchen and you sat down to supper if we were graciously lucky enough one way or the other Grandma and Mama made it happen What a Beautiful dinner Fried Chicken okra potatoes pinto beans fried cabbage boiled cabbage I can keep going. And the spaghetti and all it's fixings with the Hefty meaty sauce was absolutely awesome unfortunately couldn't eat them all at the same time but they have to taste as good as they look because my plate was banging. I think the good Lord first and foremost my Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior for letting me spend the day with my baby girl and letting us be able to eat at AJ's Steakhouse Thank you baby girl first and foremost and thank you AJ Family Restaurant and all the employees for such a lovely afternoon and supper I felt like I was 12 to 14 years old sitting down to a good supper that Mama or Grandma had sweated and worked hard to create Thanks for the Memories and God bless. I order from AJs all the time and my plates come with salad and dessert so today I decided to go in and eat with my husband for Valentine's Day. It was me, my husband our 18 year old daughter and her boyfriend. We ordered 4 plates and drinks and it was 50.00. All of a sudden my husbands Blood Pressure shot up and he almost passed out so I did what I normally do with takeout and got 2 small boxes for our dessert to go. I got banana pudding and a small piece of coconut cake. Right when we was getting ready to leave a very rude and disrespectful manager come to the table and said y'all aren't taking anything out unless you pay for it separately. 😠 I explained to him my husband is about to have a heart attack or a stroke so we have to go and could we please take our cake and banana pudding with us and he said absolutely NOT. 😡 I couldn't believe he was willing to risk 300 to 500 a month that we spend there over a small piece of cake and a small box of banana pudding. I called and informed the other main manager and he apologized and said that he didn't know my husband was sick and he would of let us take it with us. I mean hell we paid for it. Anyways I will NEVER step foot back in AJs Steak House in Morganton NC not to even buy a drink. That was rude and disrespectful and he knew we was regular customers. So they just lost ALOT of business over 3.00 in desert which was included in our meal in the 1st place. It's just ridiculous. But I will say our waitress was AMAZING. She is usually our waitress when we eat there anyway and she is always great but now thanks to that greedy manager he made her loose approximately 50 to 100.00 in tips a month from me, my daughter, my grandma, my mother in law and everyone else in my family. Needless to say he cost alot of people alot of money over 3.00....

Tried this place for the first time since my fiancé who grew up here said it was good when he went a few years ago and recommended it but the service was not good. We walked in and was not greeted at all and didn’t know where to go. When we walked to the counter the lady said to grab a tray and silverware then proceeded to walk off and not tell us anything else. We were confused as to what to do so we just sat down at a table. After waiting a while, we went to the buffet to get food but there weren’t any plates. So we went to the front counter again and asked for plates. She gave us two plates and said our server should have given us some but a server never came to our table. After we got a server and ate, we sat there waiting for a ticket so we could leave but nobody came back to the table to even ask how we were doing. Finally someone noticed and we found out we were supposed to pay at the beginning at the counter and that the server was supposed to get and take the tray, silverware, and plates to the table for us but that never happened. As a person who gets anxiety going into new places, the staff did not make me feel great at all. Also, we were the youngest couple in the restaurant and we felt like an outsider the entire time because every server would be very nice to everyone else who was older than us and call them by name but when it come to us they just stopped in real quick and then left without making any conversation like they did with everyone else.
