It pains me to write this review, because I really like the environment and broad selection of wines The Wine Bar offers. It is one of the few decent (apparently), adult bar/restaurants in Morgantown.
I made a reservation for my birthday, and within a day I called and changed the time of the reservation from 8pm to 6pm (when I initially made the reservation, the individual I spoke to said that they also had a 6pm opening). So when I called to modify the reservation, the person I spoke with assured me that the reservation was good to go for 6pm on the night of my birthday. However, when my party (of 10) arrived, they said they did not had a 6pm reservation for me. After about 25min, they made something work. Okay, good; rough start but okay, I let that go.
However our waiter was not really attentive to our table. He delivered water only twice, and although I asked for more water, I didn't received another water serving until after we had paid the bill. Furthermore, although I KNOW they are not required to do this, most restaurants will do this - I was expecting some comped dessert as a birthday gift / thank you...after all I did bring in another 9 paying customers.
If this wasn't enough, the valet left my friend's keys locked in his car. He proceeded to bother him 3 times while we had dinner trying to get him to provide a spare key (which he didn't have on him). I understand asking him once, but if he said he did not have a spare on him, STOP INTERRUPTING OUR DINNER! Come on, if you messed up, you should fix it. Of course, he didn't want to have to deal with it because he'd have to inform the restaurant management, which would then have to incur in the locksmith charge to unlock the car.
In conclusion, this dinner & drinks night was not what I would have wanted for...
Read moreI recently enjoyed eating two separate evenings at The Wine Bar at Vintner Valley in Morgantown, WV. The times happened to be on a Thursday and a Friday night. (I booked ahead because RESERVATIONS ARE STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.)
The ambience is warm (full, but not loud), the service was very accommodating, and the food provides new experiences. The menu has some of the most unusual and tasty items one will find in the area. The chef has clearly trained and worked in different regions and brings these tastes to Morgantown. In addition, the menu provides options for customers with dietary restrictions, such as gluten-free and vegetarian needs.
I’m sure the menu changes seasonally, but all the foods tasted great, including Long Stem Artichoke Roses with aioli sauce, Green Goddess Fries, and salmon cakes. Our friends shared a beautifully put-together charcuterie board, including items for guests with GF restrictions. The chef has created a “pickle” category that tickles the curiosity and taste, including pears, peaches, radishes, and ramps (try this Appalachian delicacy with a pickled twist). I found the pickled ramp with a smidge of goat cheese from the charcuterie board a delight, with no cracker needed.
For entrees, the table had a mixture of items with nothing but euphonic sounds of “mms,” which is a good sign. I had the tortellini, which was GF, and enjoyed every bite, and had plenty to share with others.
In the dessert category, the dark chocolate mousse had the perfect texture and taste, and the cheesecake with the caramelized topping was delicious. All desserts are reportedly made in-house.
I recommend this restaurant.

Read moreOne of the worst dining experiences I have had. We went to celebrate a once in a lifetime achievement and wanted to splurge on a great night. Someplace that is named “Wine Bar” and has a large selection of wines, some of which are very high end, should know how to serve a Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. The owner brought it to us and AFTER it was opened and decanted, said it is a “bit cold”. When I touched the decanter it was so cold that it seemed as if it had been refrigerated. Red wine should not be cold like that. The flavors will not come through and we were spending $145 for this wine. Not wanting to make a big deal, I kept trying to warm the decanter with my hands but it was not working. Our entrees had already come and the wine was not drinkable yet. When we called him over, he downplayed, saying it was just a couple of degrees too cold. This was not true. My husband asked him to help us to solve it. He went from being upbeat and personable to cold and aloof. He brought us another bottle of the same wine a vintage year earlier and asked if this one was ok temperature wise. I said that one was perfect. He decanted and poured in silence. He left and did not come back to check again. Our service for dinner was awful. Our initial cocktails came after our appetizer, and mine was brought then my husband’s a couple of minutes later. All dishes and glasses were left on the table throughout the meal until there were so many we had to stack them on a chair. Water was never refilled. My steak was overcooked and the entrees overall were mediocre. The owner never came back once and he did not make any adjustment to the check to make up for giving us a wine he knew he should not have. ...
