I’ve been coming to Aunt Bea’s all the way from Greensboro fairly regularly for the past five or so years and the food is always delicious, but I experienced something during my visit yesterday that just didn’t sit well with me. After I finished my lunch, I ordered a single scoop of ice cream. The cashier who rang me up was new (and still learning!), but accidentally did so on a register that already had another employee’s order on it. She didn’t realize that she had given me an employee discount until another seasoned cashier came over and told me. This cashier asked me to pay the remainder of the original price + tax. It was 21 cents. She then proceeded to scold the new employee for her mistake in front of me and the customer she was currently ringing up at the next register. This poor girl was so embarrassed she turned beet red, and I was embarrassed for her. The other cashier said to her “If it were anyone else, you would have gotten yelled at.” Seriously?! Over 21 cents?! It was unprofessional for the other cashier to reprimand her in front of the customers; she should have spoken to her later in private about it instead of embarrassing her in front of God and country. I told the new cashier that it was okay and that she was doing the best she could. She looked like she was going to cry, so she just smiled and nodded. I felt terrible and still do. It was an honest mistake and ridiculously blown way out of proportion by the other cashier.
Like I said, the food here is always stellar but this one encounter yesterday left a sour taste in my mouth. I now wish I would have said something to the cashier who reprimanded her, but I was so shocked I couldn’t even believe it. I hope she doesn’t treat the other...
Read moreUpdate from 2020. Still not worth going there. Pre COVID, my wife and I would go there 2-3 times a week for lunch. It is btw where we worked. It used to be good.
COVID was awful here.
Today we went here for ground steak sandwiches. We were going to drive thru, but it was backed up and not moving at 2:30 pm. A normally slow time for any restaurant. No one at counter so we went in. Ordered combos with potato wedges. Order was complete at 2:27 according to receipt. 12 minutes later we got our dine in order in a go bag. No one said thanks or anytime, just put the bag on the counter, called the number and walked away. The same car that was at the drive thru window waiting for their order when we went inside 15 minutes earlier got their food at the same time. (!)
Our food was only lukewarm. Nowhere near hot. No discernible difference in the large and small sandwiches that we ordered. They were both small and lacking much ground steak or slaw.
This is why we quit going to CF Jones restaurant, owned by same guy. Cold food and long wait times, plus the new high prices everyone has. I have talked to the owner a lot over the years and am guessing he has no idea about this.
The manager did refund our amount, so there is that. But that doesn't make up for the rest. And we just can't justify going here when there other restaurants that will take better care of us and give...
Read moreLike so many other people, we saw the sign "family restaurant" and saw that there was a good sized crowd there and assumed it would be a good place for a meal. Well, the food was probably fit for your dog. I ordered the chopped steak and my business partner ordered grilled chicken. The chopped steak was indeed "chopped", so much so that it appeared that it was scooped using an ice cream scoop and had the appearance and texture of a mixture of grits with mystery meat in a rounded heap. The grilled chicken was NOT grilled but microwaved. The remaining portions of our dinners were just about as "good". If I could, I would give this place -3 stars. I would only recommend this place for their ice cream, since that is what the majority of the patrons were eating. Everything else, forget it. We actually dumped our meals into the trash can. DO NOT...
