On 11/18/2021, I had a horrible experience with my take-out order and the owner of the Thai Cafe. I had placed a to go order. Thai Cafe left out part of the order, curry.. I live about twenty-five miles one way to the Thai Cafe. When I got home, my brother's curry was missing. I was given the order in a plastic bag that was tied and did not think to untie it to check the order for accuracy. I now recommend that you do that if you order take-out from the Thai Cafe. Despite calling Thai Cafe many times from 7;00 pm until closing, the line was always busy when I returned home with the shorted order. They do make good food and get many call-in orders. The next day I happened to be going back to Mt. Airy. I went by the Thai Cafe in order that they make it right and fix me the curry that they left out. I took my sales receipt with me to prove that I had ordered the evening before. Twice two different waitresses went back to the kitchen and the owner refused to make the order right. The owner sent a message by the waitresses that I would have had to have called them the day before. I explained that the line was always busy when I called. The owner still refused to make right with the order. I grew angry and let the waitresses know where the owner could go and walked out. This is not typical behavior for me. The cost of the curry that I was shorted was $11.25. I called my credit card company and they agreed to give me credit for that amount since I did not receive that portion of my take-out order that was over thirty dollars. Thai Cafe's food is generally good. However, the attitude of the owner was poor that day. When Aunt Bee took over the Chinese Restaurant on The Andy Griffith Show, she would have been understanding in my situation! I was planning to have some friends meet me at the Thai Cafe for Christmas. Again, the food is very good there. It is just that I expected the owner to make-right on the food that was left out of my take-out order. If I return and order take-out, should I have the waitress untie the bag to check that all the contents of the order are in it before I leave? Buyer beware! I do regret telling the owner where she could go but what about her refusing to make right on the left out curry? And I did...
Read moreI didn’t expect to find worthy Thai food in Mt. Airy, NC. We came up for a couples weekend and went to the Andy Griffith Museum, and the Siamese twin museum, and then checked into the hotel. I was looking for food opportunities in the area, and Thai is always one of my go to choices. I was pleased to see a well rated restaurant nearby. I talked to my boyfriend into going for Thai food, which is totally out of his wheelhouse. We got in the car and headed over. It was about a five minute drive and we pulled into a non-auspicious looking shopping center and wedged in between other shops was the Thai Café. My boyfriend is looking at it from the parking lot and saying “are you sure you want to eat here” and “I said well I’d like to give it a try”. It wasn’t too busy and immediately we were seated. The hostess and server were both quite friendly and helpful and didn’t hover too much. I had looked at the menu online in advance and had kind of picked out what I thought I would like my boyfriend chose something completely different. We started off with an appetizer number four I think on the menu which was a shrimp eggroll. It was lovely. The presentation was unexpected. It was very tasty and well done. Our entrées were the number 42 and the number 20. My curry with chicken was one of the best I’ve ever had. The cream of the sauce was just so delightful. The chicken was well cooked. The temperature was perfect for me. You are given the option between one and five chilies for heat and I chose number two. It was perfect. I did not feel hurried and the restaurant was actually quite charming on the inside, not expected at all after walking u. I would recommend this place to anybody who likes Thai food and if you’re anywhere close in this part of the state, it’s worth...
Read moreI wasn't exactly sure what to expect after reading mixed reviews, and arriving an hour before closing with not one single customer in the restaurant, but I have to say the food was delicious!!! We learned they do a lot of take-out orders and 4 people came in to pick up theirs while we were there. Our waitress was very friendly, helpful, and gave great suggestions. We had the sampler appetizer and their sauces are homemade and delicious. We got peanut sauce, soy sauce, and sweet and sour sauce with the appetizer platter. Their spring rolls are phenomenal, and the sweet and sour chicken was the best I've ever had!! My daughter had the sesame chicken with jasmine rice and thought it was delicious! We'll be leaving the area tomorrow to return home but I wish I could stay longer just to eat here again! Thank you for the delicious meal!!!!
