My husband and I were spending the day in Mt. Dora and before before taking a boat tour of Lake Dora and the Dora Canal, we decided to stop in for a lite bite at the Magical Meat Boutique - a pub/restaurant owned and operated by a guy from London, where the original MMB was located. There is so much memorabilia on the walls throughout the restaurant. My favorite is a doll set featuring Def Leppard commemorating their "Hysteria" album. After the boat tour, we went back to the Magical Meat Boutique for dinner. Our server, Kate, was totally amazing. She was more than happy to answer questions and accommodate my special requests. Kate's personality was just awesome. She and I are both American women who are married to British men and swapped "how we met" stories. My husband, being from England, had a hard time choosing what to eat both visits because he was definitely familiar with the many offerings available on the menu. The had breakfast offerings til 4pm including full English and Irish breakfasts, as well as popular breakfast sandwiches. There was plenty to choose from on the appetiser section, including Scotch Eggs. Dinner options were plentiful. We did see an order of fish and chips go by...what an enormous piece of fish (choose between cod or haddock) and another entree of bangers and mash served in a large Yorkshire pudding. I will most definitely go back to that place. Oh...if you EVER get the chance to go that restaurant, you MUST get the sticky toffee pudding with the warm custard sauce.

A cool little pub we found completely by accident. Seems most of Mount Dora is closed on Mondays (at least eateries and pubs) so we walked over to this place from downtown, and what a great little place this turned out to be. On our visit, we had Beer Battered Sausage Bites complemented with Colman's Mustard. Not much into fried food but this was good. We also had a dessert, Spotted Dick, a sponge cake with raisins and currants. Also a good choice. Of course the main reason to go to a British pub is the beer. They serve pints and half pints and have a wide selection on draft. A few of the taps were empty due to the Mount Dora festival they had over the weekend but there was still plenty of good ones to choose from. At this writing, MMB had the following taps flowing: Hobgoblin English Ale Innis and Gunn Toasted Oak IPA Fuller's London Pride Ale Morland Old Speckled Hen Guinness Stout Tennent's Export Lager Carlsberg Extra Gold Newcastle Brown Ale Iron Maiden/Robinson's Trooper Kilkenny Young's Double Chocolate Stout Taps emptied before we got here Monday morning: Boddington's Magner's Golden Draught Cider Orkney Skull Splitter Leffe Blonde Belhaven Twisted Thistle IPA Looks like I just missed the party. 😆 Julie and Elaine were serving when I was here. Elaine hails from Manchester, so show up with a sense of humour and expect British attitude. These ladies are top of the pops.

TWO WEEKS LATER and I am still raving about the incredibly underrated GEM that is THE Magical Meat Boutique in Mount Dora, FL. As one of the few (if not only) restaurants open past 9pm on Sunday, safe to say I wasn’t thrilled with our limited dining options. Although, after skimming some online reviews, my demeanor began to shift. Deciding what to order from a menu filled with traditional English pub grub wasn’t easy, but we relied on the feedback of the staff and a few others to make final food decisions, (reviews from Google and Yelp specifically). sidebar — i have never liked shepard’s pie. while I do love each ingredient in the dish, it is not something i would even consider ordering for dinner. never have i ever ordered shepard’s pie, simply because i thought i never really liked it?! THE SHEPARD’S PIE was EASILY THE MOST DELICIOUS THING I HAVE EATEN IN YEARS — jam-packed layers of flavor, every bite being better than the last. Their staff is professional, hospitable and knowledgeable. The owner and staff have built something truly ‘magical’ in Mount Dora. They successfully exceeded expectations and this place is undoubtedly worth another visit. Do yourself a favor and order the Shepard’s Pie, TRUST ME, you won’t be disappointed! 😉

Let me say i wanted to love this place with all my heart. I did not. The Scotch egg was good. The potatoes were good. The waitress was pleasant. All else was not good. The burgers were burnt. The sausages were over cooked and the Yorkshire pudding was rubbery and tasteless. It was left uneaten on my plate. But, the insult at the end of the meal was the absolutely horrible excuse for sticky toffee pudding that cost almost $10. I would compare it to a Little Debbie cupcake but that would not be fair to Little Debbie. There was no caramel sauce, even though I asked specifically for caramel sauce and was told that there would be caramel sauce. The cupcake-like thing was dry and surrounded by some kind of cream sauce. This item really should be taken off the menu - it’s that bad - in my opinion. In another review the restaurant stated that the item is from the UK because a certain ingredient can’t be found in the US. I have had delicious sticky toffee pudding in the US. There is a way to make it here. I would visit again for the Scotch egg but would not order anything else that we ordered that day.
